Victor Wembanyama certainly kept his receipts on his way to the NBA. The 7 ‘4 French baller came into the league with plenty of hype attached to him. His arrival was even compared to the frenzy that LeBron James brought in during his rookie season in 2003. Importantly, both of them lived up to their expectation in their freshman year. At the same time, Wembanyama kept an eye on his naysayers from the past and gave them back when it was time.
While we aren’t sure about others, it did give it back to an individual who doubted him in October 2020. An Instagram post, dated back to 2020, hailed the baller for his performance in France’s basketball league’s season opener. The post read, “16-year-old NBA prospect dominates grown men in season opener in France.” In response to that, a user commented, “He not gone do none of that in the NBA.” Wemby didn’t bother to respond to the hater until he made it big in the NBA.
The 2024 Rookie of the Year Award winner, 1309 days later, replied to the comment, simply saying, “Why not?” Importantly, it quickly caught the fans’ attention after ESPN shared the screenshots on their IG handle.

Victor Wembanyama can confidently say that he has shut down his hater. And, the 20-year-old star’s spellbinding rookie season stats speak for itself. He ended the season averaging, 21 points 10.6 rebounds, and 3.9 assists per game. It was the biggest rookie season stat since Blake Griffin, who averaged 22.5 points in the 2010-11 season. Moreover, he became the first rookie to produce 1500+ points, 250+ blocks, and 100+ 3-points in his freshman year.
Additionally, Wemby’s Player Efficiency Rating (PER), which is calculated with FG, FT, 3PM, assists, and rebounds, is recorded at 23.1 and it was higher than Donovan Mitchell, Devin Booker, and Jayson Tatum in the 2023-24 season.
Fans flood in hilarious comments as Wemby shuts down his hater
Fans have been behind Wembanyama’s back since his arrival. Notably, during the rising superstar’s first-ever game on American soil, playing the Summer League, fans didn’t give him time to breathe. He could drop only 9 points but impressed the court on the defensive end with 8 rebounds and 5 blocks. But, the fans quickly wrote him off with that one performance. But he proved them all wrong in his rookie season.
On the other end, fans continued to take a dig whenever they had an opportunity. In the same vein, fans didn’t hesitate to troll him for replying to a hater after 1309 days. A user wrote, “Didn’t know Aliens are petty too.” Fans swarmed the comments section with hilarious reactions.
Another fan wrote, “He wakes up in the morning checking off receipts then goes to practice,” hinting that Wemby might have a record of hate comments that he received in the past. Following that, another fan took a dig at the strict routine that the French baller follows in the Spurs fold. They wrote, “Omar its passed your bedtime.”
