Did the Sixers make a mistake signing Paul George, or is it just bad luck with injuries?

When Daryl Morey successfully signed Paul George this summer, fans expected the Sixers to turn into immediate title contenders. But they currently sit dead last in the standings among all thirty teams. Moreover, it looks like their misery is not going to end anytime soon because PG suffered a second unfortunate injury during last night’s Grizzlies game. Yes, he hyperextended the same knee that delayed his Sixers debut. And the latest update on PG-13’s return does not raise hopes as fans prepare for the worst.

As per the Sixers’ announcement, Paul George has suffered a bone bruise in his left knee yet again and will remain out of action at least for the next two games. A re-evaluation on Monday will provide further updates on the injury. That means he will not play in tomorrow’s NBA Cup encounter against the Nets and will also miss Sunday’s Clippers game.

Well, he missed the first five games of the year after suffering the same issue in the preseason. So, the timeline of his return could be extended even further based on the severity of the injury. Obviously, the Sixers would not want to rush anything, as it could increase the risk of re-aggravating the injured knee. This is undeniably a massive blow for the team because they are already 2-12 to start the season and not having PG could hurt them even more.

This setback will also halt Paul George’s momentum while he is already struggling to find his groove. Yes, the veteran has not played up to his standard so far and his numbers have dropped significantly from last season to 14.9 points on a disappointing 27.8% shooting from deep range. The lingering injury only adds to these concerns.

NBA world mocks Paul George after injury update raises concerns: “Bad signing”

Obviously, the fans are not pleased with how George has started his tenure in Philly. Feeling the effects of his injury-prone nature, many are fearing the worst for him, as comments like, “His past experiences are telling me he’s out for at least 2 weeks” and “You mean see him in Neverary? He’s done,” began flooding in. Yes, PG has already missed six games this season and is expected to miss more because of the injury.

“An MRI of Paul George’s left knee revealed no structural damage. He will be listed as out (left knee bone bruise) for the next two games and reevaluated on Monday,” the official PR statement from the franchise does indicate a positive aspect, though, amidst the tough period for the Philly side- ‘No structural damage’.

One frustrated fan even deemed him “A bad signing” because of his frequent unavailability. Obviously, the Sixers spent $212 million to acquire Paul George and in return, they expect the hoopster to lead the team to an NBA title or at least a deep playoff run. But that looks like a far-fetched dream based on the current situation, as Philly currently holds the worst record.

As expected, many netizens even mocked George, making fun of his ‘Playoff P’ nickname by replacing it with “Paramedic P” because of his lingering injury concerns. And one fan even pointed fingers at PG’s podcasting career, “This guy just did a podcast! Insane.” Well, the idea of George missing games but continuing to host his podcast does not sit well with people as it apparently signals a lack of focus and commitment on the superstar’s part.

Meanwhile, one fan had advice for the Sixers to keep Paul George healthy, “They should just rest him and then make sure he is healthy halfway through the season or they will pay same price the Clippers did.”

Well, during his five-year tenure in LA, PG dealt with multiple injuries and was out for a major chunk. Notably, he played over sixty games in a season only once, which was last year. Obviously, the Sixers do not want to face the same fate as the LA Clippers and would hope to keep PG healthy for the remainder of the year. But that has proved to be a massive challenge so far.
