Well, things got chippy on opening night between the Lakers and the Timberwolves. With JJ Redick’s squad dominating for most of the game, Anthony Edwards looked in no mood to joke around and even got into verbal altercations with his opponents. Obviously, everyone saw him butting heads with AD on the court. But there was also a moment when Ant-Man was trash-talking a player on the Lakers’ bench. As leaked audio reveals what was said, many believe it was targeted toward his former teammate Jarred Vanderbilt.

In the video, an agitated Anthony Edwards can be seen yelling “You’ve been hurt for 2 years n—-” at the home team’s bench. Although the video does not reveal which Lakers star, he was trash-talking, it is being speculated that this was for Vando. Sure enough, Jarred has been dealing with injuries ever since he arrived in the City of Angels. This past season, he missed 53 games because of a lingering heel and foot injury.

Moreover, he has yet to make an appearance on the court this season. As per Rob Pelinka, the forward had a procedure on each foot during the summer which went “highly successful.” And there was even optimism that he would be available for opening night, even though there were a few ramp-up steps that needed to go well. However, all hopes were shattered when JJ Redick later revealed that Vando would not play against the Wolves and will continue to rehab at least for the next two weeks.

With the leaked audio going viral, most fans came to a consensus that Jarred Vanderbilt was the recipient of Anthony Edwards’ trash talk as comments like “Gotta be Vanderbilt 💀💀” and “he talkin to Vando craaazy😭” began flooding in. Meanwhile, some fans also speculated that he might have been talking to Gabe Vincent, who also missed most of last season because of injuries. However, Gabe completely recovered and even played last night’s game, so a netizen claimed, “mos definitely Vando Gabe dont talk crazy like that.”

What’s your perspective on:

Is Anthony Edwards right to call out Jarred Vanderbilt, or is it just unnecessary drama?

Have an interesting take?

A netizen reminded everyone that Edwards and Vando were once teammates in Minnesota “Vando, & Ant used 2 play tg 😭.” Yes, the forward played for the Wolves for nearly 3 seasons and even shared a good relationship with the current talisman. However, now that they are on opposing teams, there is going to be that competitive fire. Sure enough, many fans seemed to agree with Ant’s comment and roasted Vando, saying, “Didn’t even realize Vanderbilt was still on the team.” And “Vanderbilt damn near on a pension.”

Ever since he inked the $48 million deal last year, Vanderbilt has spent most of the time injured and on the sidelines. While he is a solid player and even helped the Lakers reach the West Finals, his talent is of no use if he cannot stay healthy and available. And fans are eagerly waiting for his return so that he can prove his worth. But we are still unclear when that is going to be. Hopefully soon.
