The Minnesota Timberwolves are in the groove. After romping to a 4-0 series sweep of Kevin Durant and the Phoenix Suns, the T-Wolves are up 2-0 in the Conference Semis against the Denver Nuggets. The emergence of the T-Wolves has been one of the stories of the season, and one of the primary reasons behind that is Anthony Edwards. At just 22 years old, he’s been making waves and some fans are even likening him to Michael Jordan.
Anthony Edwards’ rise has been such that even NBA stars have begun to take notice of his otherworldly superstar potential. One superstar who seems to be in awe of Ant Edwards is the Atlanta Hawks star, Trae Young. Just two days ago, Trae Young took to X (formerly Twitter) to voice his opinion about Edwards’ 43-point performance against the Nuggets. He wrote, “Ant Man in that Zone!!” Edwards followed his impressive Game 1 performance, with another stellar showing. He scored 27 points and dished out 7 dimes, as the T-Wolves won by a scoreline of 106-80.
Following this impressive display, the X account of Everything Georgia dropped a congratulatory post, with captions, “The whole state of Georgia is rooting for Ant-Man to win it all.” However, what caught most fans’ attention was Trae Young’s comments under the post. Young wrote, “Should’ve been a Hawk to start, but that’s for another day.”

Was there a chance for Anthony Edwards to join the Hawks?
Back in 2020, Anthony Edwards was one of the most sought after prospects in the 2020 Draft. With him being a native Georgian, the Atlanta Hawks were in the running to draft Ant. They even had favorable odds to secure a top four pick in the 2020 Draft. However, luck wasn’t on their side as they ended up with the 6th pick, opting for Onyeka Okongwu instead. Meanwhile, the Minnesota Timberwolves snagged the 1st pick and chose Anthony Edwards. The rest, as they say, is history.
However, Anthony Edwards playing for the Hawks is a fascinating prospect. The Hawks have struggled in recent seasons to build upon their impressive 2021 playoff performance in which they progressed all the way to the Eastern Conference Finals. Things have gotten so bad in Atlanta that rumors have started to circulate about Trae Young’s departure. Surely, with Anthony Edwards on their side, things would have been much better.

But as fate would have it, Anthony Edwards was meant to crave his NBA legacy in Minnesota. A franchise who hasn’t even remotely come close to winning the coveted Larry O’Brien trophy. Could Edwards change that and bring an unprecedented level of success to the T-Wolves organization?
