He might’ve retired, but the legend of Adrian Wojnarowski lives forever in the NBA. Once ESPN’s most respected and trustworthy insider, he’s now the GM of St. Bonaventure Bonnies men’s basketball team in the NCAA. Seems like the ‘Woj Bombs’ didn’t stop even after the Association in his rear-view mirror as he’s brought Cavs guard, Donovan Mitchell into the mix to help drag the Bonnies out of financial trouble.

Adrian has been quite open with the fundraising he’s been doing for his alma mater. He’s taken a 99% pay cut from his scooping days, sold old iPhones that he used during his time at ESPN, and even sold Victor Wembenyama’s draft pass. This is all in the effort to take the Bonnies back to the glory days.

“This is another instance where I’m trying to impact our program and help raise revenue… We are in a fight to do that, especially in our conference. And we’re trying to do everything we can to be creative, innovative,” said Woj on his intentions.

The Bonnies brought in Wojnarowski as his ‘global network of connections in the basketball world will be an invaluable asset for the program.’ In hindsight, it seems like a stroke of genius, because that’s exactly what he’s done by bringing Donovan Mitchell in to help. Spida has partnered with sporting giants Adidas to implement the D.O.N. Issue #7 “Camp”s to the Bonnies on-court gear, as he so eloquently said in the promo video.

“Y’all work so hard, y’all do a lot, I watch a lot and obvioualy y’all got a great GM in Woj right here who- him and I go way back. So I wanna say thank you to him, appreciate y’all, continue to show my love and support. Everybody rock the gear and go and get some dubs. Go Bonnies!” said the Cavs point guard.

While it might not be his alma mater, it shows the caring character of Mitchell to bring the 7th edition of his sneakers with the Three Stripes to grace the Reilly Center.

The Woj Bombs have set their own legacy in the NBA. Adrian Wojnarowski specialized in breaking major news regarding trades, free agency, and contract negotiations. But in September 2024, his most dangerous bomb turned out to be his retirement notice, as he was all set to be the GM of the Bonnies. But his duty in the NBA wrapped up with a tweet about Isaac Okoro’s contract extension with the Cavaliers.

The 24-year-old was picked up by ‘The 216’ as the 5th overall pick in the 2020 NBA draft. He’s been quite the revelation in his 5 years on the team, proving to be a valuable asset and a reliable rotational player for Kenny Atkinson. They’re currently top of the East, and their contention for their second-ever championship grows game by game. The forward signed a contract extension near the end of September 2024, which proved to be the last ‘Woj Bomb’ the NBA will ever be graced with.

Wojnarowski’s tweet read “Okoro agrees to a 3-year, $38M deal with Cavs- via @ESPN App.” I’m sure if anyone knew this was going to be his last bomb, they’d hope for the explosion to have an everlasting effect on the world. Not sure about the entire world, but it sure rocked Okoro’s.

He has all the bragging rights for being the last ever ‘Woj Bomb,’ which he clarified by tweeting “Last Woj Bomb 🤷🏾‍♂️ #LetEmKnow.”

Regardless of Woj’s new ventures, his legacy in the NBA is like no other. Much like the Fabrizio Romano of basketball, Woj’s credibility remains unmatched in the world of NBA reporting. His moves of fundraising as the new GM of the Bonnies, with the help of Donovan Mitchell and Adidas, is a sign of him doing exactly what he was brought on for.
