Etched in the history of the Golden State Warriors, Andre Iguodala will now solidify his name as a legend. By the time Iggy retired in 2023, he was a 4x NBA champ. All the rings he owns have the Golden Gate Bridge engraved. Therefore, it only makes sense that the Dubs have decided to retire his jersey No.9 at Chase Center on Sunday, February 23.
But before the main event even began, a blast from the past crashed into the Chase Center. However, this endearing and hilarious throwback keeps that unforgettable moment alive forever.
Do you remember ESPN’s Max Kellerman? Well, he’s not a part of the media giants anymore. But in 2019, Kellerman gave the Dub Nation a hilarious instance. And it looks like the Golden State Warriors franchise and associates are using it unabashedly.

Flashback to Kellerman’s unforgettable comments from 6 years ago. June 3, 2019—forever marked by four words: “I want Iguodala.” The line blew up after the 2015 Finals MVP buried a cold-blooded dagger three, sealing the Warriors’ Game 2 win over the Raptors. And Max? The man, the very next morning, went to First Take, with nothing but high praises for the 2004 No. 9 pick.
“I want Iguodala. That’s right. … Iguodala’s got ice water in his veins … high-leverage moment — fate of the universe on the line — open shot … I want Iguodala taking that shot for me,” Kellerman had said.
But was that the only time? Nope! Fast forward to his return to GSW after a brief stint with Miami. In an early January close matchup with Jazz, Iguodala hit another clutch three to seal the deal. And then-Warrior, Damion Lee took to X posting a GIF of Kellerman with, that’s right, “I want Iguodala,” in bold. Needless to say, that warranted another response from Max Kellerman—a hilarious reiteration of the above.
“And let me tell you fools something. I still do! … This is not about how well you shoot, it’s about what’s in your veins, is it ice water? … Andre Iguodala is not a great shooter, Steph Curry is the greatest shooter of all time. When it matters most, I want Iguodala,” Max stated.
Surely, everyone at the Bay today is feeling the ex-ESPN reporters ‘golden words’ to the bones!
Meanwhile, Klay Thompson proudly celebrates the Golden State Warriors icon getting his jersey retired. It’s safe to say the Captain feels proud to see Iggy honored ahead of the many still waiting.

Klay Thompson has best wishes for Iggy as he becomes a Golden State Warriors legend
On Feb. 23, the Warriors will honor their 41-year-old legend—with Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, and Klay Thompson in the house. Sounds like the perfect Splash Brothers reunion, right? But here’s the twist—Klay had no clue they’d be in the Bay that night! Still, the 35-year-old sharpshooter can’t wait to celebrate Iggy, just like Iguodala showed up for him during his first game against the Warriors in November 2024.
Speaking to The Dallas Morning News, Thompson didn’t hold back on his admiration for Andre Iguodala. “That would be cool to see. Andre deserves it and he’s obviously one of the best players in franchise history for the Dubs [Warriors]. Without him, there would be no championships,” he said.

But Klay wasn’t done. The Mavs star credited Iggy for more than just on-court heroics, adding, “I learned so much from him, especially off the court. He started the trend of us being able to acquire talent in the offseason. He kind of broke the ice with that; he took a big gamble in coming to join us.” Safe to say, in Klay’s book, Iggy isn’t just a legend—he’s a trailblazer!
