Doubts, questions, and concerns are pressed on Bronny James. Many question whether he fits into the league or just got in because he is LeBron James’ son. However, nobody can question the path he is taking. There are no shortcuts. With development as his topmost priority, the Lakers’ second-round pick is on the tedious path of going through the NBA’s G League. And with the South Bay Lakers, the 20-year-old is showing promising signs.
It included a string of performances, his latest, scoring a career-high 31 points with a nasty poster. But it’s more than just personal gain. Bronny James benefits those in the league. EssentiallySports held an exclusive interview with Cameron McGriff, a current G League star for the Indiana Mad Ants, who opened up on Bronny.
McGriff has played basketball around the world. And in his return to the G League, he feels it’s better placed to prepare talents for the league. “I think they’re definitely making it more suitable for guys in the G League to make a transition to the league,” he told EssentiallySports’ Andrew Whitelaw.

According to McGriff, Bronny’s integration is a smashing hit for the G League. Not only does he come with a fanbase of his own, but organically the league gains a brighter spotlight with the Lakers guard playing regularly.
“I think it helps the league for sure. It helps the league absolutely. It brings more notoriety and publicity to the game, as well as other factors that go into it because obviously these people, a lot of players in the G League, have carried their own fan base from whenever they came, whether it was college. Obviously, Bronny is Bronny so he’s going to have a fan base regardless and I think it does nothing but elevate the league,” McGriff stated.
However, there’s another dimension to Bronny James playing in the G-League. McGriff feels his being in the G-League directly coincides with the players’ financial strength. “We talk about you know, the financial situation for the guys in the G League with standard contracts, and when you have guys like Bronny in the league in which brings more eyes to it, ultimately you’ll sell more tickets at games, which ultimately brings more money you know. So, I think it’s good for the league. It’s great,” said the Mad Ants prodigy.

With a cloud of judgment all around him, it doesn’t look like the G League players’ mind having Bronny James. Rather, they see a positive side to the 20-year-old. He is slowly beginning to thrive with the South Bay Lakers and earning the trust of JJ Redick.

Bronny James is slowly regaining his confidence again
A major health scare and a long road to recovery later, Bronny James eagerly awaited the moment he earned an NBA call. He didn’t desperately need the Lakers to do so as his father LeBron James wished for. All he wanted was a chance to prove himself in the biggest league. And now, with a humble mind, he is turning opinions around.
After a woeful start in the G League, James has been on a tear, beginning to find his scoring touch. Moreover, he is playing with tremendous tenacity too. His averages have seen a spike, now putting up 15.6 points and 3.4 assists for the South Bay Lakers.
LA Lakers head coach JJ Redick can relate to James. As a former Duke star, he faced belligerent scrutiny in every arena. However, he reached a point of fearlessness. It was a readiness to fail and learn. That’s what Redick previously pointed out: Bronny James needs to “take off”.

And it seems those words touched the 20-year-old’s heart. He’s notched up amazing performances in recent games, a highlight being his 31-point night against the Rip City Remix. One play stood out: a classic poster dunk that showcased the freakish athleticism within the James clan.
Now, he is starting to get regular minutes for the Los Angeles Lakers. Although his success isn’t as captivating just yet, he’s only just getting started. And believe it or not, Bronny James does boast an amazing skill set that, if matured, could reap great results.
