When Stephen Curry gets going, there is not much anyone can do to stop him. Tonight was one of those nights for the Baby-Faced Assassin as he went off for a season-high 56 points to get the much-needed win against the Magic. “Oh man. Needed all 56 of those!” Steph remarked as he headed to the locker room after his big game. Of course, the entire hoop world was left marveling at his glory, even his running mate, Draymond Green. But in that excitement, Green might have spilled a big secret that could help teams contain Steph amid the Warriors’ playoff push!

Addressing Curry’s dominant performance, the former DPOY said postgame, “I think you know Steph kind of does this thing where he loses the ball and people think like the ball is lost and if you reach for it, you kind of just setting yourself up. And I think those ones break people back more than anything because in your mind it’s like ‘Man I had him off balance. He lost the ball and he still made the shot.’” Turns out, giving defenders false hope by making the ball seem stealable is part of Steph’s strategy to demoralize them.

If you think about it, Steph has been doing this his entire career. Dribbling the ball away from his body, he lures the defender to go for the steal, and capitalizes by regaining control and making a three or blowing past them for an easy two. As per Draymond, only two players have the skill to pull this off, “Him and Kyrie Irving, their move starts when they lose the ball and it’s a special thing to have that type of control over the basketball.” Of course, Kyrie is a dribbling wizard in his own right and arguably the best one-on-one player in the game who can create shots out of nowhere.

However, now that the defenders are aware of Steph’s strategy, they might no longer take the bait when he fakes losing possession. And that could create problems for the Bay Area franchise as they are yet to face eighteen more teams in the regular season. But Steph likely has more tricks hidden up his sleeve!

February 27 declared “Stephen Curry Day” as Steve Kerr reveals what he “Loves” about the Warriors star

Nearly two decades have passed and opponents are still trying to figure out how to contain Steph. Even though Green accidentally revealed his strategy, Curry’s versatility will keep him un-guardable like it always has. In fact, February 27 has been fairly lucky for the Baby-Faced Assassin. Turns out, he scored 46 points on the same date nine years ago, and 54 points twelve years ago. On both occasions, he made over eleven threes. Even tonight, Steph made twelve deep-range shots and the Magic could do nothing about it. That’s why the Warriors declared this date the “Stephen Curry Day” in their latest tweet.

What’s your perspective on:

Can any team truly contain Curry, or is he destined to dominate the league forever?

Have an interesting take?

Of course, one of the things that makes Steph great is his fearless attitude. Even if he misses every single shot the whole night, he is never afraid to take the game-winning shot regardless of the outcome. The world got a glimpse of that attitude tonight as he made an improbable long-range buzzer beater from his own half. Even Steve Kerr acknowledged it, “One of the many things I love about Steph, he always shoots the halfcourt shot. He doesn’t care about his percentage.”

Thanks to Steph’s epic performance, the Warriors have now climbed to the seventh seed in the West standings, and are well on their way to making the playoffs. Now, their focus will be on continuing this momentum and avoiding the play-in tournament altogether. Do you think they can achieve that goal?
