Would a LeBron, Curry, and Durant trio be the greatest team in NBA history?

Well, the world finally witnessed LeBron James, Stephen Curry, and Kevin Durant team up during the Paris Olympics. As expected, that has only left the fans craving for more. Seeing how much the three legends loved playing with each other and how well they complemented each other’s game, people have already begun cooking up scenarios where they can join forces in the future once again. Amid the speculations, Warriors’ legend Gilbert Arenas made a bold suggestion to the trio that would help them achieve what Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, and Larry Bird missed out on.

Addressing the possibility of LeBron and Steph teaming up in the future on the Gil’s Arena podcast, Agent Zero said, “Just as a basketball fan man, just do it.” Then, his co-panelist Kenyon Martin threw KD’s name in the mix, which led to Arenas talking about the ‘Dream Team’ members’ missed opportunity. He said, “In 91, if Jordan had about three to four rings and it was the idea of him, Bird, and Magic to play together and that was going to be their last year because Magic and Larry didn’t play no more, we wouldn’t stop hearing that sh*t today if it happened.”

Sure enough, MJ, Magic, and Bird were the three most popular superstars in the league at the time. However, they never got a chance to join forces because Bird and Magic were already on the verge of retirement and the formation of super teams at players’ will was not possible back in the day. But this is not the 90s anymore!

While LeBron, Durant, and Steph are currently contractually bound with their respective teams, all three are set to be unrestricted free agents at the same time ahead of the 2026-27 season. And that could be the perfect time for them to change NBA history forever. “You don’t have nothing to lose. I just wanna see it. It’s like Michael Jackson and Prince.” Arenas added.

Which team can LeBron, Durant, and Steph play for?

Even if the three legends reach common ground and decide to team up, the big question remains, ‘Where do they play?’ As per Arenas, “For the league, it’ll be the Golden State because it’s the San Francisco big market or the Lakers.” Obviously, because of Steph’s loyalty to the Warriors, it might be the toughest decision for him to leave the city.

So, LeBron and KD could move to the Bay Area as Durant has already been a Warrior in the past and James has switched multiple teams in his career and excelled everywhere. Going by the economic aspect, there might be no better option than the Lakers because they are one of the most historic and accomplished franchises in the league.

However, Arenas threw a curve ball when he said, “If I’m them, personally just to f**k history up, I go to New York.” Sure enough, each one of them has been linked to the Knicks at some point in their careers. And Arenas believes that could work to the trio’s advantage.

He said, “They win a championship, I guarantee you whatever they said about Kevin Durant and LeBron James, New York fans will stand ground.” On top of that, it could elevate each superstar’s status, “I guarantee you overnight, LeBron will be over Jordan because all New York City gonna vote.”

With all three legends in their late 30s, they might have only one shot at making this happen. Do you think LeBron, Steph, and KD should team up for one historic run before they retire?
