Victor Wembanyama is redefining basketball as we know it! The San Antonio Spurs’ sophomore big man has made the NBA statisticians work overtime with his unprecedented numbers. His 3.9 blocks per game not only lead the league but are also ranked as the highest ever in the NBA history at this stage of a career.

Well, it’s not just about the numbers, there’s much more to admire about the towering Frenchman who is one of the best two-way players as it is in the NBA right now. Spurs coach Gregg Popovich also has a lot to be credited for in developing Wembanyama. Recently, ex-Warriors star DeMarcus Cousins made a bold claim about Wembanyama’s future on Run It Back TV, while the host asked Cousins if Wembanyama would go down as the greatest of all time.

To which he replied, “Well, I already see it, and I felt like we were having this conversation before he played his first game, just to see the talent, the height, the build. This is something we’ve never seen before in this sport. And this kid has it all.” Claiming the 21-year-old already has all the ingredients for a great dish. He further stated that it’s a no-brainer that Wembanyama has the talent. So it isn’t a question of how, but it is when he’ll do it.

But there’s no doubt in my mind, he’ll go down as one of the greatest. It’s not even an argument. At a minimum, he’ll be the greatest defensive player of all time. Like, minimum. I’m calling that now, the greatest. So the sky’s the limit for this kid.” Said Cousins. Well, with the current trajectory, there’s no doubt the Spurs star will be one of the greatest ever when it’s all set and done. Let’s see how Jamal Crawford helped develop another layer to the big man’s game.

What many people missed was his stellar footwork, that’s what made him the player he was. Fast forward to last year, when Spurs star Victor Wembanyama pulled off a dribbled 1v1 against none other than Rudy Gobert! Fans all over the world lost their minds. Apparently, Victor, backed by his team, reached out to Crawford for guidance. Naturally, the former NBA star wanted to check in with the main man, coach Popovich himself, to understand what needed help with. Handles? Dribbles? As it turns out, Popovich was on board and of course the big man had his say in the matter as well.

Crawford trained Wembanyama, and the focus of the sessions was on the fundamentals, especially the footwork. He made sure he trained the Spurs star according to Popovich’s tactics while helping him enhance his skills. “Stuff that took me years to learn, he can do it and download it in five minutes, it was incredible.” Was Crawford’s reaction while training Wembanyama. Well, the training seems to be paying off big time as Wembanyama and Spurs are tearing it up in the league.
