The duck boats graced the streets of Boston after a thunderous win for the Celtics in the NBA Finals, against the Dallas Mavericks. After a 4-1 defeat, we saw Joe Mazulla and his troop gracing the streets, surrounded by fans showering their love on them. The Celtics’ team wore their favorite attire, meeting and greeting every single person they could. After all, this win led them to win the most number of championships now in all of NBA and it came after a long, long wait of 16 years.
Now, while all the stars graced the streets, Kendrick Perkins was nowhere to be seen. It was surprising since he dedicated the first 8 years of his career (2003-11) to the Celtics, winning a championship for them as a great defensive center for the team.
But at the same time, if you really consider the dynamics between him and the current Celtics, they’ve turned quite sour. So the once “open-door policy” for the Celtics, that Mazulla established ahead of this season, wasn’t really that “open” for Perkins.

After hanging his boots up, Perkins soon became a sensation in the ESPN world as an NBA analyst. Over time, he earned a reputation for putting forth facts and criticisms he felt were right for the teams, players, and coaches. This also led to LeBron James getting upset with him in the past. As for the current Celtics, well, he did not spare Jayson Tatum and their beloved coach.
Perkins in one of his segments said that Tatum looked “scared as hell” in a game in 2022. He was once also furious over Tatum’s performance and spoke about him in great disappointment. “I’m so over Jayson Tatum. When is he going to arrive?” Perkins stated. Even on X, he took a shot against the Celtics, overtly stating that the Finals series was boring because of the Celtics. In another segment, he took shots at Mazulla, calling him names like “birdbrain” earlier in January, saying that if you take Mazulla’s brain and put it in a bird, the bird might start flying backward.
By all means, these comments weren’t taken in good spirit by the entire roster. So, even when the Celtics ultimately won the title last week, for them, Perkins was not welcomed. Even the Celtics owner Wyc Grousbeck reportedly banned him from the parade. Of course, Perkins is in no capacity to react to this abomination, but fans sure do have their share of fun!
Fans slam Kendrick Perkins over Celtics parade
Celtics fans really are intense. You can see from this reaction that one fan had already taken it way too personally! This fan writes (in all caps by the way!), “NOTE THAT KENDRICK PERKINS IS NOWHERE TO BE SEEN. THE MORAL OF THE STORY? DON’T EVERY TAKE SIDES WITH ANYONE AGAINST THE FAMILY. EVER.”

Will the real Silky Perkins please stand up?
This fan had a whole skit prepared:

After many many “opinions” he’s given over the Celtics and the entire roster, of course nobody was going to let him enter.
And then there are fans who are a little “extra violent” in their approach.

Well, that would hurt!
Even Brian Scalabrine didn’t want Perkins anywhere around the duck boats.
Brian Scalabrine just went on the radio and said that the Celtics don’t welcome Kendrick Perkins back like they do with the other former players 😭

So, the open door policy for Perkins is “closed”.
Another fan pointed out that Perkins worked for ESPN and chose to condemn the Celtics despite being a former player. That didn’t go down well with Boston.“Cause he chose the ESPN gimmick of hating on Boston in exchange for a check. SMH,” the user commented.
One netizen wondered since Perkins had rough words for the Celtic players, including that for Tatum, the players themselves might have vetoed keeping him out of the scene. “It’s because the players don’t want him around,” the netizen stated.
According to another user, Stephen A. Smith is lauded for his straightforward expression of opinions, and Perkins was also probably trying to emulate Smith and gain popularity. “Perk trying to be Stephen A. Smith of ESPN, he doesn’t bleed green,” the Celtics admirer commented.

Since Kendrick Perkins had previously stated that he felt the concert by The Pop Out: Ken & Friends was more entertaining than the Finals between the Celtics and the Mavericks, one Celtics fan himself didn’t want to see Perkins at the winning parade. “This man better not be at the parade tomorrow,” the fan wrote on X.
