Chef Curry is one of the greatest living athletes. Today, he’s a four-time NBA champion with the Golden State Warriors, a two-time MVP, and he has time and again proven to be the greatest shooter in NBA history. But the road to stardom was obviously not smooth for Stephen Curry. His journey had struggles filled with trials and tribulations. But history witnessed the testament to his resilience and determination.

The recent Apple TV+ documentary ‘Underrated’ provides an intimate look into Stephen Curry’s early career, revealing a time when the future NBA superstar was just a young player at Davidson College, grappling with failure and self-doubt.  

Stephen Curry’s rocky start

In the documentary, Curry recounts his second game at Davidson College against Eastern Michigan. It was a game where, in his own words, “everything that could go wrong, went wrong.”

Despite a disappointing performance in his first game, Coach Bob McKillop decided to start Curry in the next game, a decision that carried significant implications for the rest of his future in basketball.

The game was a rollercoaster for Curry. He missed a three-pointer, made an air ball, and watched as the opposing team rebounded and dunked. But then, something clicked. Curry made a three-pointer, followed by another, and another. He ended the game with 32 points.

Despite losing to Michigan, it was a pivotal moment for Curry, a night that reaffirmed his belief in his abilities. It was one of the more memorable nights, just because, you know, reminding myself or convincing myself that i was who I was thought at that level,” he reminisces. 

From Davidson to the Golden State Warriors

Fast forward a few years and Curry’s career took a meteoric rise. He was drafted by the Golden State Warriors in 2009 as the #7 overall pick. Over the next decade, he led the team to four NBA championships. With each passing season, Curry continued to improve. Alongside Klay Thompson and Draymond Green, he propelled the Warriors into an era of dominance rarely seen before.

The Warriors went on an unprecedented run from 2015 to 2019 under Steve Kerr’s coaching, winning four NBA championships. Curry played a pivotal role in their success, earning two MVP awards and setting numerous records along the way.
