February began with a shock to the NBA world when the best of buddies had to part ways. A midnight decision that sent shockwaves through Dallas and Los Angeles, leaving fans and teams in disbelief over a trade that seemed to come from nowhere. While the community was consumed by Luka Doncic’s move, Anthony Davis, who was the King’s best buddy, was left in the shadows, almost forgotten. Then, disaster struck. He stepped onto the court for the first time as a Maverick to win the hearts of Dallas fans with his brilliance against the Rockets. But instead, he was forced onto their injury report. Since then, optimism surrounding his injury has been nonexistent, until now.
According to Marc Stein’s report, “Anthony Davis is practicing with the Legends today and is very eager to return from his adductor strain before season’s end.” The insider didn’t miss adding, “Whether he actually does return, though, remains TBD amid concern about exposing Davis to re-injury.” The message is obvious: the star is itching to be back to his usual self, and more so the Mavs management wants to shut critics’. But then what do the fans feel about it?

Davis sustained a non-contact groin injury during the third quarter of the game, which was later diagnosed as an adductor strain. Unlucky, for over a month, the 10x All-Star has missed the hardwood, the period where he could have won over the Mavs heart. And now, after monitoring him, the franchise has sent him to their G League affiliate, the Texas Legends, where he’s been practicing and participating in 5-on-5 scrimmages.
Could this mean the team plans to bring him back this season? That’s the first instinct that comes to mind. The same thought crossed the minds of the Mavs fans and everyone started saying the same thing in the comment section of the X post.
Dallas Nation not on board with the idea of Anthony Davis’ potential return
There was always a sense of dissatisfaction when Davis came in exchange for Doncic. And with the injury spoiling his start, fans aren’t excited anymore. One fan voiced the frustration, stating, “What is the point of him returning? It’s not like AD gonna put the city of dallas in his back and win a chip.” The Mavericks are struggling, with a series of injuries putting their postseason hopes in jeopardy. So many believe that adding AD now wouldn’t make much of a difference.

What’s your perspective on:
Should the Mavs risk Anthony Davis's health for a slim playoff chance, or play the long game?
Have an interesting take?
Not everyone in Dallas is ready for a short-term dance, especially when they know there’s nothing much to fix from here this season. “AD needs to sit until next season. He goes back out during THIS, it might be career ending,” commented another fan. And it’s not just this fan who thinks the franchise shouldn’t rush the 31-year-old star back this season, Kendrick Perkins has suggested the same. Rushing Davis to rejoin the team before fully recovering could be risky for him.
And then someone wrote, “If there is concern then don’t bring him back wtf … season is done already.” With Kyrie Irving out of the picture for the season, the Mavs’ chances of making it to the championship are slim, and fans seem to have given up on it. The team is already struggling, and trying to pull out of the slump would be futile, especially considering Anthony Davis’ condition isn’t ideal enough.
Speculating on the potential outcome of Davis’ return, one fan remarked, “AD comes back, ruins the tank and suffers a season ending injury immediately after.” This sentiment has been echoed by many fans on the social media post, who believe hurrying Davis to come back isn’t the solution. While there’s no doubt about his ability to lead the team single-handedly, now is not the time to test that. Rather, pushing him now could ultimately worsen the situation for the franchise.

Amid all of this, a comment surfaced, stating, “Fire Nico…I wish all bad things happen to Nico and Dumont ball related, until the end of time.” The person further claimed, “I’m no longer a fan of the Mavs, I’m just fanning the flames until it’s all ashes.” This isn’t new. Ever since Doncic’s trade, protests have erupted all over Dallas, with fans demanding the firing of general manager Nico Harrison. Until that happens, it doesn’t seem like the fans are going to stop.
Everything now depends on the Mavericks — whether Davis will return or if Nico will continue with his plan. Hopefully, they’ve already thought it through. Do you think bringing Davis back is a good idea given the Mavericks’ current situation, especially when they are 10th seed? Let us know in the comments below!
