If it were up to the Pelicans, they would probably scratch this season off the history books. That’s because things just keep getting worse for them. And their record proves it as they are currently the lowest-seeded team in the West. Moreover, the injury bug has forced them to play without multiple stars. Unfortunately, another one joined the list tonight—Herb Jones. And it had the hoop community sharing a similar sentiment.
As per veteran insider Chris Haynes, the latest update on Jones is that he “will be out the remainder of the season after undergoing surgery to repair a torn rotator cuff.”
Well, the forward has not played in an NBA game since early January as he continues to deal with the posterior labrum tear in his right shoulder. But fans became hopeful for his return after he was spotted doing some light shooting exercises last week.

However, Pelicans’ executive VP of Basketball Operations, David Griffin, shattered those hopes with his statement: “Herb actually is going to, well, he already has sought an additional opinion. I think he’s probably going to be shut down for the season here soon, and we’ll have more information as it goes along once he’s evaluated there.”

Of course, this is a massive blow for the New Orleans franchise because Herb was in incredible form prior to the injury, averaging 10.3 points and nearly four rebounds. Moreover, the timing of this news could not have been worse as the Pels are already dealing with multiple sidelined players. And that’s what the fans also pointed out.
NBA world deems the Pelicans “cursed” after Herb Jones joins long list of injured players
Soon after the Herb update was announced, the hoop community flooded social media with comments like “Pelicans are literally cursed, my goodness what a waste of a season,” and “Not sure we’ve ever seen a team get injured as much as the Pelicans have this year.”
Earlier this month, Dejounte Murray tore his right Achilles during a game against the Celtics, getting ruled out for the season. Meanwhile, Zion Williamson has frequently been in and out of the lineup as he continues to manage his recovery.

Adding to the concerns, Jamal Cain, Brandon Boston, and Kelly Olynyk are also on the injury report. Before they traded Brandon Ingram to the Raptors, he was also out for a long period with an ankle injury. Cursed or not, this is definitely a concerning situation for the franchise, as they have been unable to keep their roster healthy. One fan even wondered, “Are the Pels and Mavs sharing the same injury curse?”

Yes, even the Mavs are in the same boat with the Pelicans as Anthony Davis, Dereck Lively II, Daniel Gafford, and many other players are currently sidelined due to injury. One netizen even urged the Pels ownership to relocate the team to a different city to end this curse, “Move the franchise my lord.”
But that is unlikely to happen. Meanwhile, some hopeful fans were praying for Herb’s “speedy recovery.” Well, the Pelicans’ season is as good as over because their chances of making it to the playoffs are bleaker than ever. So, it would be better for them to let their stars rest and focus on next season’s strategy when their roster is back to complete health. Do you agree?
