The Golden State Warriors have had a horrid start to the 2023-24 season. Going into the season, the Warriors had aspirations of yet another NBA title. However, things haven’t gone according to the script for the Warriors. Due to their lackluster start, the Warriors languish outside the playoff spots. Their poor showings of the Warriors have prompted fans to criticize the performances of team veterans Draymond Green and Klay Thompson.

However, former Warrior DeMarcus Cousins thinks that the Warriors need an “update”. He further implied that Klay and Draymond would recover from their current struggles, but he also indirectly criticized his former coach, Steve Kerr.

During a recent episode of his podcast, Bully Ball, DeMarcus Cousins suggested massive changes within the Warriors organization. During a conversation, co-host Rachel Nichols quizzed Boogie on whether the Dubs should trade away Klay or Draymond. Boogie replied by saying, “No, I don’t think anybody should be traded…. I’mma go out on a limb saying this, we go back to the previous summer, we watch Team USA. They struggled and there is no reason for that, and it’s only one common denominator in that equation and that’s Steve Kerr. Maybe it’s time for new leadership in this Warriors locker room. The reason I say that, even the Apple iPhone gets an update.”

While the Warriors have faced challenges under Steve Kerr’s leadership, it’s undeniable that they won’t achieve dynasty status without Kerr’s guidance and strategic brilliance. Replacing Kerr won’t miraculously convert the Dubs into a title challenger. In fact, that would be one of the daftest things the Warriors hierarchy could do. Steve Kerr deserves the time and respect to turn their fortunes around.

The Warriors have their work cut out in the race for a playoff spot. They currently occupy the 11th spot in the Western Conference standings, with 16 wins and 17 losses. The Warriors have looked out of sorts and some key players like Wiggins and Klay have witnessed a significant decline in their production and performances. Draymond Green has also been suspended for at least three weeks due to unsportsmanlike conduct.

The only silver lining in the current season has been Stephen Curry’s MVP-caliber form. He has averaged 27.6 points, 4.6 assists, and 4.4 rebounds per game this season. The Warriors must optimize Steph’s twilight years as a star. He provides them with a fighting chance for the title. However, the current composition of the Warriors roster is nowhere near good enough to win the title. What are your thoughts?
