It seems things are about to heat up in Phoenix. And no, we’re not talking about the coming of spring. This is about Kevin Durant and his future with the Phoenix Suns. And an NBA insider thinks that we are in for a massive shakeup! This can of worms opened after KD appeared on Draymond Green’s podcast to discuss his future.

ESPN’s Ian Begley revealed that Nico Harrison and the Dallas Mavericks really want to sign Kevin Durant. “I was told that the Mavericks were very aggressive… trying to find other teams to get involved so they could make the math work and bring Kevin Durant to Dallas,” Begley reported this right as the trade deadline came to a close.

Obviously, no such move materialized.

However, Brian Windhorst’s latest words have added new fuel to the rumor. Well, they’re [Phoenix Suns] going to trade him and he knows that…And then in the off-season, he sort of gave himself a little ad there. He’s like, whatever team gets me, you know, I’m going to make a difference. I’m still in my prime. So I think he’s handled this very appropriately,” said Windy on NBA Today.

With the Suns not even guaranteed a spot in the play-in, it’s clear that the Big 3 experiment involving KD, Devin Booker, and Bradley Beal has failed. So it’s in all parties’ best interests to cut their losses. Windy’s co-host and NBA legend Kendrick Perkins agrees with this sentiment.

They trash. They have no leadership. And they’re just riding it out for guys to go their separate ways…You got to go ahead. Like Wendy said, they’re going to trade KD. Good for KD. Good for the organization that’s going to get KD,” said Perkins.

By now, you must be wondering what KD said on the Draymond Green Show to start this wildfire of speculation and intrigue. Well, we’ve got you covered on that front. Here it is.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Kevin Durant the missing piece for the Mavericks, or just another failed experiment waiting to happen?

Kevin Durant wants to end his career on his own terms, says it’ll “cost a lot”

On his podcast, Draymond Green asked Kevin Durant whether he wanted his career to end in Phoenix. KD replied, “Man, I want my career to end on my terms. That’s the only thing. But he didn’t stop there. KD also revealed what it would take for a team to sign him now, in the twilight of his career.

“I just, I cost a lot,” said the Suns star. He continued, “It’s gonna be a whole new era of your team when I get to your team. I’m still of value, you know what I’m saying. Especially in my contract and just my production. Me just getting up and moving in the middle of the season, it’s going to be a big [financial] blow to any team I’m going to.” KD seems to have thought about this quite a bit.

Durant also said that he gets why the Suns want to trade him. Spending 16 years in the NBA means Durant knows the ins and outs of the league, so he’s wise to the fact that basketball in the end is just another business. However, he did say that he prefers to not be traded in the middle of a season like the rumors suggested this year.

“We just play the season out and if that’s the decision you want
to make in the off-season, then, you figure it out,” added Kevin Durant. His words, along with the reports of Begley and Windhorst all but confirm a move away from Phoenix for the 36-year-old. So there we have it, the sun will soon set on KD’s time in Phoenix.

But where do you want to see Durant next? Could an AD-KD trade be on the books between the Suns and the Mavericks? Or are you Warriors fans still hopeful of his return to the Bay Area? Let us know!
