Could Russell Westbrook's aggressive style ruin the Denver Nuggets' shot at a championship this season?

When Nuggets coach Michael Malone said before Russell Westbrook’s potential entry into the team, “somebody to play behind Jamal Murray,” the trade that happened might be what he was referring to at that time. However, no matter how much Jokic wished to share some hoops with the ex-Clippers point guard on the court, it might backfire on the whole team. In the recent turn of insights from the ESPN insider, the Denver Nuggets have been warned that signing Westbrook might swallow up their title ambitions next season.

Appearing on ‘The Lowe Podcast,’ ESPN writer Zach Lowe expressed his opinion on Westbrook going to the Nuggets as he explained to his co-host Seth Partnow, “I think it’s not the best idea um it was very clear that the playoffs were such a disaster for Russ that the Clippers marriage was about to end.”

Underwhelmingly, Westbrook only averaged 6.3 points, 1.7 assists, and 4.2 rebounds last season for the LA Clippers’ playoff run. Assuming the Nuggets are going for Russ because of his reputation, Lowe summed up Malone’s objective, stating, “I’ll tell you what the Nuggets are banking on: Our bench needs an identity. This is a shot at an identity, just rampaging crazy frenetic fast pace.”

Well, the Nuggets are known for their run-and-gun offense. Yet what the Joker and Malone are aiming for, through Westbrook’s chaotic play, might backfire on them amid the slump. “Russ is like hyperactivity; just radiates out in every direction.  And when it’s going badly ends up hurting your team more than helping your team, “ Lowe shared his statement that he mentioned to an executive about Westbrook’s presence with the league teams.

Nonetheless, the Nuggets and Jokic are still going for the point guard to beseech him with the backup ball handling and rim protection roles. Let us know how Westbrook can aid Joker and the Nuggets with their bench strength ambitions.

Why the Nuggets are so eager to get Russell Westbrook?

When the Nuggets appeared on the court during Game 7 of the second round of playoffs against the Minnesota Timberwolves, their bench strength failure was reflected publicly as they only scored 21 points, taking away Jokic-Murray points. It was a deciding game that they lost just by the margin of eight points and couldn’t claim their contention for the Conference and the NBA finals. That’s why they are on a desperate hunt for Westbrook to get a face for their second unit.

Have an interesting take?

Westbrook is someone who will either burnish the whole squad with his extraordinary presence and raise their game or sink with everyone down the slump if the hoops are not landing in. Either way, it is a gamble that the Nuggets had to take to awaken their bench strength for the better. They need someone to drive it and assist their key players.

Whether Malone brings out Westbrook’s prime play that he used to display in his early years will be seen only when he gets to Denver after Utah buys him out of his current deal, signing waivers. If the trick runs well next season, the Denver Nuggets’ offensive barrage might crumble the spirits of their opponents. What are your thoughts on this matchup? Let us know in the comments.
