Just when Los Angeles was beginning to recover from the devastating week-long wildfires, a new round of fires sent the residents back to square one. This time, the tragedy has struck a different area and as of Thursday evening, has affected 10,300 acres of land, leading to several evacuations. Sure enough, the constant suffering of the LA community has left everyone heartbroken, including Reggie Miller.

Revealing his emotions on Live TV while announcing last night’s Lakers vs Celtics clash, the Pacers legend said, “It’s been a very difficult month and a half and I know very well what a lot of these families are going through. These wildfires, they don’t discriminate.” Yes, the wildfires have already claimed 28 lives and caused the county an estimated loss of over $250 billion. AccuWeather’s chief meteorologist deemed it “one of the costliest wildfire disasters in modern US history.”

But amid the devastation, Miller was happy to see the community coming out to help those affected. “It’s great to see how everyone has rallied around the families.” Well, many sports giants have chipped in to support the LA relief fund. Even the Lakers’ biggest rivals, Celtics, have set their differences aside for a greater cause. Yes, billionaire team owner Wyc Grousbeck and his wife Emilia announced that they will make a sizable financial donation for ‘Rebuild LA’. And Jeanie Buss’ franchise will also contribute to the cause.

Of course, this is not the first time Grousbeck has made such a wholesome gesture. Turns out, he also chipped in a million dollars toward efforts to develop a vaccine for Coronavirus four years ago. Moreover, he is not the only owner stepping up to help the LA community. Even Steve Ballmer and his wife have donated $15 million to the affected families. “We love L.A. and are committed to supporting the communities affected by the devastating wildfires.” The Clippers owner remarked. Well, the players are doing their part too.

Although Jrue plays for the Celtics, he is an LA native and has a home in Ventura County. Fortunately, the property was not damaged in the ongoing tragedy. But Holiday’s recent visit to the city for the Clippers and Lakers games made him realize the devastation others are going through. Even his sister, Lo, was forced to evacuate her Santa Clarita home because of the new fires.

Sure enough, Jrue was heartbroken. “Obviously, LA is close to my heart… So, to see families just lose everything is hard. I still have family out here who are affected by the fires, so I think trying to bring light to a pretty dim situation is important.” Well, that’s exactly what Holiday did as he invited a few affected families with children to the recent Celtics games, providing them access to pregame warmups, a meeting with the entire team, and autographed memorabilia.
