The moment is finally here! A father and son take to the NBA hardwood for the first time in the hoops league’s history. LeBron James, who sat out for the Lakers‘ preseason opener, laced up for the Sunday challenge. As usual, the 39-year-old legend displayed his athleticism from the get-go. However, fans had to wait until the second quarter for JJ Redick to make ‘the historic decision’. And boom, fans online erupted with stirring reactions.
After a disappointing loss against the Wolves in the opener, the LA side looked completely in control against the Suns tonight. With LeBron James and Anthony Davis back in the lineup, it’s safe to say that the Lakeshow had an effortless run, taking a 9-point lead in the first quarter. And, the moment of truth arrived in the 2nd quarter, when JJ subbed in Bronny, coincidentally, on his 20th birthday.
Right from the moment Jr. checked in, the crowd was on their feet. And, poetically, the father and son stood together in their first-ever play, guarding an inbound pass. That’s it, every loyal LeBron James fan’s life has come full circle! Nevertheless, it was a short stay, as Bronny played only 4 minutes in the second quarter. And, it’s unlikely to expect LeBron James to return in the second half.

However, in the four minutes, fans definitely had so much to talk about. Importantly, the duo created a wholesome moment when Bronny James came off a screen set by his dad and shot a jumper from the arc. It would have been a double treat if it dropped in, but unfortunately, it bounced off the rim. So, Bronny, in that time span with his dad, collected a rebound and missed a shot from the arc. On the other hand, LeBron had a free-flowing night, dropping 19 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists while going 9 of 12 from the field.
Who’s cutting onions? – Fans get emotional as LeBron and Bronny share the court
Even though it’s still the preseason, fans had the first glimpse of LeBron and Bronny James on the same court. And it was enough for most to fill the internet with responses. The videos quickly surfaced on the social media platforms, and fans were even quicker. A person wrote, “REAL TEARS IN MY EYES.” And, surprisingly, this situation brought a similar reaction from many others, as another fan wrote, “This is enough to make grown men cry.”
Notably, this wholesome moment came just hours after LeBron James dropped a promising statement about Bronny’s progress with his basketball, after the grave heart condition. A day before the match-up, King James said, “I think the more and more time he’s out on the floor with pros, the speed, the cadence, and all those things, you get better and better as you spend more time on the floor.” While we haven’t seen Bronny’s flurry yet, everyone starts somewhere and then the only way is up, that’s the hope!

Another fan spoke like a true King James fan, as they wrote, “LeBron-to-LeBron alley-oop incoming!” Notably, the community could have witnessed a similar moment during the four-minute stay, when the 22-season veteran dished out a dime to his son, but Bronny had to pass it again before shooting. Nevertheless, fans witnessed Jr. coming off his father’s screen, though!
At the same time, there are naysayers as well. In the heat of the historic moment, many failed to recognize the historic moment. A fan wrote, “Bronny 2 turnovers in 2 seconds.” Even though two seconds is an exaggeration, the 20-year-old did give away two turnovers.

While he was expected to come back stronger in the second half, he barely shot the ball, as he completed the game with a 0-1 stat line from the field. If this continues, fans might barely see the rising star in the Lakers rotation. However, this is just a preseason game and we’ve to wait until the regular season starts to understand where he truly stands as a pro.
