Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry has long been the face of the franchise, guiding the team to multiple championships and redefining the modern game. But as time passes, the NBA’s harsh reality of roster changes is beginning to take a toll. Just months after losing longtime teammate Klay Thompson to the Mavericks, Curry is now facing another looming uncertainty—Draymond Green’s future with the team.
In a revealing conversation on The TK Show with Tim Kawakami, Curry addressed the possibility of saying goodbye to Green. When Tim asked, “Could you ever imagine saying goodbye to Draymond? How tough would that one be?”, all Curry could respond with was: “Extremely difficult.”
He further shared his emotional confession, saying: “Any type of scenario that where this ends and, you know, Klay’s not here, either one of us isn’t here. Like, I never foresaw that being a reality.”

Since Klay’s departure from the Bay Area, Curry often looks like he’s losing that joy of playing basketball. Things have eased up for him since Jimmy Butler stepped in. But if another one of Curry’s foundational pieces could potentially leave, his life on-court will be a major challenge. An unsettling reality.

While Curry remains emotionally tied to Green and the franchise, he acknowledged the nature of the business. Teams must make difficult decisions to stay competitive, and players often have little control over their fate. “You just hope you handle it the right way—with respect and dignity,” Curry stated. “I’m not saying that’s the way it’s going, but it would be extremely difficult to see a reality where neither one of us finished our career here.”
Though there is optimism that Draymond Green won’t suffer the same fate as Thompson, NBA dynamics are ever-changing. The once-unbreakable Curry-Green-Thompson trio is now fractured, and Curry’s only hope is that he and Green can finish their careers together in San Francisco.
Beyond player movements, Curry also addressed his relationship with Warriors HC Steve Kerr. What would it be like for Curry to be coached by someone other than Kerr?

Can Steph Curry imagine his relationship with Coach Kerr continuing? “Would you want another? I mean, could you imagine another coach?” Tim Kawakami asked the 36-year-old point guard.

“I couldn’t imagine it, no,” Stephen Curry boldly replied. “And our job is to make sure that doesn’t happen. Like, keep figuring out ways to be relevant in the conversation, because I know as soon as we’re not, neither one of us would kind of see it the same way.”

The Warriors are at a crossroads, battling roster transitions and the pressures of sustaining a championship culture. Amidst the heartbreak of losing Klay Thompson, Andrew Wiggins, and others to either trade or retirement, Stephen Curry clings on to Draymond Green. He has a wish, and that is to see the two of them end their careers here in San Francisco with the Golden State Warriors.

However, it depends on the franchise and their needs. And despite all odds, Curry can never imagine working under anyone but Coach Kerr. That’s the trust they’ve developed over the years. And that’s what has got them going for so long.
