To say the Philadelphia 76ers had a rough night would be an understatement. After a promising start against the Miami Heat, the Sixers completely fell apart, eventually losing 106-89 in a game that left fans fuming. The disappointment didn’t end there. Nick Nurse’s post-game presser recorded a delay, leaving the media waiting as frustration among fans boiled over.
When Nurse finally arrived, he opened with an apology for the delay. The 57-year-old revealed the team had held a “little meeting” after the game. According to Ky Carlin of Sixers Wire, Nurse declined to share specifics about the discussion, further fueling speculation about what might have been said behind closed doors. “Nick Nurse has come out and started his media session by apologizing for being late and said the team had a “little meeting”. He won’t get into the specifics of the meeting.”

Although Nurse did not get into the “specifics” of the meeting, the 57-year-old explained a few topics they covered. Essentially, the Northern Iowa alum focused on three key areas: acknowledging the positives on defense, addressing areas for improvement, and encouraging confidence.
“There’s a lot of good things happening out there defensively. Even considering we’re playing at such a disadvantage. Like, we’re playing against transition so much yet, there’s still a lot of good communication, good schemes, etc.,” Coach Nurse reasoned. Furthermore, he also addressed the team’s obvious offensive struggles.
Nurse particularly emphasized the need for “moving the ball, staying with execution,” and improving overall scoring ability. But the key area of focus was boosting the players’ confidence. Addressing the need to instill that fight in his squad, Nick Nurse noted, “Getting these guys to believe that they’re better shooters and better scorers than they’re showing right now, and we need them to step up and do that.”
Meanwhile, online criticism of Nurse reached a fever pitch, with “fire him” chants echoing on social media. After a string of inconsistent performances, fans are growing increasingly vocal about their frustrations with the Sixers’ head coach.
And boy, are these frustrations pretty detailed and loud!
Nick Nurse finds himself out of favor with the Sixers fans: “He’s been a total disaster”
One area that many fans echo Nurse’s choices regarding rotations, player roles, and offensive strategies. Take, for example, what this individual had to say after tonight’s dismal performance. “I started the season as a nick nurse fan, now I can’t stand him! He’s been a total disaster. Yabu has been in our top 3 players this season and now he can’t even get minutes? That on top of his unsure nature regarding McCain and if he’s a starter once tyrese returns. We need an offensive coach like a Mike D’antoni or Stan Van Gundy.”

Guerschon Yabusele had garnered heavy attention after his remarkable performances in the Paris Olympics. The French forward has already made his case, posting a stat line of 8.7 points and 4.8 rebounds while shooting 47.7% from the field and 36.7% from the deep. However, for the first time all season, Yabusele was not part of Nurse’s regular rotation, opting to go with Eric Gordon and exclusive lineups that featured Kelly Oubre, Paul George, or Caleb Martin.
Ultimately, this guy believes the 76ers are in dire need of a new approach.
Another fan came forward with a diplomatic purvey of the whole situation. “At some point Nick Nurse should genuinely be on the hot seat because even with as many examples of players underperforming as there are this is still an absolutely disgraceful product on the court every night.”
The strong dissatisfaction with Nurse’s coaching is only too apparent. The user also feels that despite certain players having off nights, the overall performance is still far from acceptable. This continuing underachievement no doubt brings attention to the coach’s leadership and thereby, our friend above feels Nick’s position should be seriously reconsidered.
This next guy has thoughts somewhat similar to the first user here. If that one had an all-around opinion, this individual gets straight to the heart of the matter. And reminds Nick Nurse of a harsh reality. “gimmick…he needs to stop playing his fav players ad play the BEST… he doesnt have that luxury anymore.”

Yet another user digs a little deep, noting that a team’s attitude and performance often reflect the leadership of the head coach and the star player. “Every sport team attitude is reflection of the head coach and the star player @JoelEmbiid totally awful and sad to see this guy regressed drastically. Obviously took advantage of Olympic coz he knew he would never win.“
From not playing at all in the preseason because of knee injury management to getting suspended for three games for an altercation with a reporter, only to drop 11 points in 31 minutes will annoy even the most patient fans. Furthermore, they also made quite a controversial claim about Embiid’s Olympic run. The user hinted that Joel focused on the Olympics because he believed he would never win a ring in the NBA.
And finally, this last fan with the username, Fire Nick Nurse, adds that Nurse could have the 2024 Team USA and he would still be unable to win any games. “The common denominator is nick nurse. There is no level of talent that is saving this team. It could be the team USA roster and they’d still be struggling if it was Nick nurse coaching the way he has been this season. He needs to be fired by tonight we can’t waste any more time.”

As the frustrations continue to mount among Sixers’ fans, it’s clear that something needs to change. Whether it’s Nurse’s inability to connect with his team or lack of offensive flow, the pressure is on him to turn things around. Fast! If that doesn’t happen, the calls for a change will get louder. And it might perhaps be not long before the 76ers start looking for a new voice in the locker room.
