Do you consider yourself a big Stephen Curry fan? Maybe the biggest? Well, in that case, you may find some competition in Grandma Kitty. The 86-year-old woman has been gaining the attention of Dub Nation since January, when her granddaughter posted a TikTok video of Kitty showing off her notebook that carried details of Stephen Curry’s games alongside the usual day-to-day scribbles, like her grocery lists. Well, Stephen Curry got to see the notebook, and the grandma herself, when the Warriors visited the Barclays Center on March 6. The visit couldn’t have been any more wholesome, and now we have got to learn that Grandma Kitty went an extra step to show her devotion to her favorite player by contributing to a cause close to his heart.

Stephen Curry participated in a presser after the Warriors 115-110 win against the Detroit Pistons. During the same, a reporter highlighted that he was tracking down Grandma Kitty to do a follow-up interview with her. Why? It’s because he found out that she had collected some significant amount to donate to Steph and his wife Ayesha’s Eat. Learn. Play. Foundation. On top of that, she had personally gifted something to the Warriors star.

Curry revealed that Kitty had personally gifted him a ‘Happy Gilmore’ check. This was, as Curry highlighted, “I think they rally people from their Community to, you know, invest in what me and Ayesha are doing. With Eat. Learn. Play. out here in Oakland. And that just speaks to the influence and just the experience they’ve had, and she’s had supporting me and being a part of the journey, so that was really cool.”

The check was the total amount collected after people from her Community donated to invest in the Eat.Learn.Play. Foundation. According to Spotfund, the initiative launched by Grandma Kitty has now accumulated over $6,280 in donations. It had surpassed the original $5,000 goal that Kitty Ford and her family hoped to reach before she finally met Steph on March 6. As highlighted by the description of the Spotfund page, Kitty took the initiative since “she could not be filled with more gratitude and wants to give back to Steph’s Eat, Learn, Play Foundation as a thank you” after the meet was set. The description also highlighted that “any donation given will go straight to his organization.”

Launched back in 2019, the Eat.Learn.Play Foundation is the vessel through which Stephen and Ayesha Curry provide an abundance of support to the children and people residing in the Oakland area. Over the last few years, it has raised over $47 million to support its various programs for kids and their families in Oakland, delivering over 25 million meals. Since its launch, it has also refurbished 12 play areas and invested $6 million in literacy programs.

From donating around $650,000 to assist in the installation of water filtration stations at 60 elementary, middle, and high schools, to pledging $25 million after Stephen Curry signed his 1-year extension deal worth $62.6 million, the couple’s contribution helped to make the Oakland Community a better place for children to grow up in. Now, the efforts taken by Kitty Ford will also go a long way in making a difference.

Stephen Curry certainly would not have expected a check during the meeting. After all, even without it, his meeting the 86-year-old fan was as wholesome as things could get.

What transpired during the meeting between Stephen Curry and Grandma Kitty?

Seated at courtside, in a wheelchair, while wearing Curry’s No. 30 jersey, Grandma Kitty was just one amongst the thousands of fans who had come to watch the matchup between the Golden State Warriors and the Brooklyn Nets. That all changed, however, when Stephen Curry came up to her during the game, gave her a hug, and then gifted her his signed jersey. The only difference was that instead of ‘Curry,’ it had ‘Grandma Kitty’ written at the back. Later, she was able to get a separate moment, away from the hustle and bustle of the court, to have a proper conversation with the NBA star. A conversation that he continued to vividly remember.

“She’s sharp too,” Steph recalled during the same presser. “She had a…. she took me through her notebook, and gave me a little insight on how her and her family, you know, come together when it comes to Warrior games and all that. So, it’s pretty special to see her, and thankfully, we got the win over there too, so she could have a good time.”

Grandma Kitty did go into detail about how she had jotted down details of specific Warriors games. From asking about Steph’s 10-month-old son to showing a Mother’s Day card she received that mentioned the NBA star, Kitty kept the conversation lively and filled with family emotion.

After that meeting, there may not be anyone who doesn’t like Stephen Curry anymore. Furthermore, if Grandma Kitty wasn’t already too lovable, the role she played in accumulating money for the Foundation raises respect for her on another level.
