This season has definitely been a bummer for GG Jackson II. The 20-year-old spent most of his sophomore season sidelined because of surgery. Around September 2024, he was on a summer workout and broke his fifth metatarsal in his right foot. While he’s been phased back in with the Memphis Grizzlies, GG made some intriguing revelations about his passions beyond the basketball court.
Recently, GG sat down with Paul George and his mates on his famous Podcast P and talked about various topics. In one of the segments, the Memphis star opened up and said, “The houses next are too close but you know, uhh Lord’s willing, we sign that next contract couple of years get out there.” Initially, it seemed like he was about to drop some hints of a future deal, but it turned out to be his future aspirations.
Jackson is currently under a four-year, $8.5 million contract, which allows him an annual salary of a little over $2 million… While this may seem like a significant sum, GG Jackson II’s comments indicate his desire for more. The hoopster’s current contract ends in 2027 (club option in final year) and a substantial deal in the future might be the one that will better support his personal goals.

In the podcast, GG Jackson II mentioned his potential musical career, saying, “If it wasn’t for basketball, I’d still probably be playing drums in a mass choir or something”. He even said “yes” when one of the panellists asked him if he’d get a new sound studio with his next big paycheck.
“My mom’s youngest brother, Henry, from whom I learned everything, trained me for the drums. My sisters sang in church and had a lot of tambourines and stuff. My grandad played the guitar,” GG Jackson II sweetly recalled. Before joining the biggest hoops league as a professional basketball player, he deep-dived into his early experiences of being a drummer at the church to which even Paul George related to another level! And according to GG, his current contract doesn’t accommodate a house where he can practice.

Following the surgery on his right foot, GG Jackson II has been working to return to full health and game fitness. As part of his rehabilitation process, he recently made an appearance in the G League with the Grizzlies’ affiliate Memphis Hustle. In the game, he scored 18 points and had 5 rebounds and this appearance helped him regain his form and prepare for his eventual return to the NBA.
Then, in Jan 2025 itself, the youngster was recalled to the Grizzlies, and he has already begun making brief cameos off the bench. In this comeback month, GG has averaged 8 points, 3.4 rebounds, and a smidgen under 1 assist.

GG himself sought Paul George’s guidance while going through the setback. In fact, PG-13 showered him with praise in the past, calling him a “ton of talent”, and “a complete star”, crediting him for bringing the spotlight back to Memphis when more than half of the Grizzlies team was injured! Jackson awaits a better deal that would allow him to truly explore his athletic excellence and his passion for pursuing music! As he recovers, fans are excited to see what the future holds for this young star both on and off the court.
