“All I heard was the music, and I was like, ‘Oh, this is my joint right here.’ This is my …’ And then my feet start moving”. Russell Westbrook was candid in 2021 when describing why “G’d up” had him bringing out those moves as the game continued. Since his arrival in the NBA 16+ years ago, the former MVP often showcases his love for dancing in the open. From grooving while sitting courtside to garnering attention by vibing to ‘Not Like Us’ at K-Dot’s concert, Brodie has shown that the hardwood isn’t the only place he grooves. However, are the NBA star’s dance moves good enough to allow him to compete at the ultimate dance stage for celebrities?
Earlier today, the Denver Nuggets point guard took to Instagram to share a video with his 22.9 million followers. The Nuggets squad had a few days of rest before their next game. Therefore, now was a better time than any to take a break. As he highlighted, Westbrook kicked back by standing up, putting on Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Squabble Up’, and just grooving to the tunes.
The captivating vibe of the video brought in reactions from all sides. Westbrook’s former teammate, Dwight Howard, simply added a ‘side-eye’ emoji while tagging the official IG account of ‘Dancing With The Stars’.

Russell Westbrook would certainly not be creating a new precedent if he were to take his talents to Dancing With The Stars! In fact, to date, 8 players from the hoops league have participated in the long-running show. They include Lamar Odom, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Metta World Peace, Derek Fisher, Clyde Drexler, Rick Fox, Charles Oakley, and Iman Shumpert (won the title).
Furthermore, if a November 2024 report by ‘Parade’ is to be believed, then Brodie can make as much as $360,000 if he survives the entirety of the 11 weeks! Being such a renowned figure in the NBA world, it surely won’t be that hard for Westbrook to find votes.
Through his reaction, Dwight Howard showed that he endorses Russell Westbrook’s moves. However, can the same be said for the Nuggets players, current, and former peers?
NBA players and fans go crazy after seeing Russell Westbrook’s dance moves: “Dawg got energy on his off days”
“Swaaaaaaaaaag” was all that Dennis Schroder wrote to highlight his love for Westbrook grooving to the tunes.
The rumored Warriors star himself has brought out some moves on the NBA court. However, the same are usually limited to celebratory moments. One of his most iconic moments was in April 2023. Back when Schroder was still with the Lakers. After an assist from LeBron James, he was able to make a triple. This broke the 95-95 tie against the Wolves, as 1.4 seconds remained on the clock. The ball went in and Schroder instantly turned towards the Minnesota bench and extended his right hand while grooving.
Anthony Davis also joined the people who reacted to the video. However, all he did was send a couple of laughing emojis. With no comment accompanying it, it is hard to interpret whether the Lakers star believed that Westbrook was goofing around, or whether he was taking a dig at his moves. AD would certainly be someone who Brodie would have to work hard to impress.

After all, the Lakers center’s ‘Whip’ and ‘Nae Nae’ dance continues to be a topic of discussion even today. The then-New Orleans Pelicans player certainly created an impression over 8 years ago when he taught James Corden the dance moves on the latter’s show.

One social media user reacted by writing, “Dawg got energy on his off days”, accompanied by a couple of emojis. This may be a sly jab because of the lack of consistent stats, from Westbrook’s side, over the season. After all, in his 23 appearances, the 9x NBA All-Star has only started in 5 games. He has averaged 11 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 6.3 assists over 24.7 minutes per game.
One individual wrote, “Jared McCain you have 24 hours to respond”. The 16th overall pick of the 2024 draft has spent the ongoing season making a name for himself. Despite being associated with a team like the 76ers, which currently holds a 7-16 record, the 22-year-old’s on-court prowess and skills have certainly placed him as a top contender for the ROTY title. However, another thing that has helped the rookie garner some fame is the dance videos. He keeps uploading them on TikTok from time to time. Therefore, if there is anyone who can challenge Russell Westbrook on the dance stage, it is probably Jared McCain.
Even people from the music industry did not shy away from reacting. American rapper Tobe Nwigwe, who boasts 1.6 million followers on social media, wrote “Footwork”. He accompanied that remark with emojis that showed an ‘uptick’ in stocks. As highlighted, an off-day doesn’t mean that the player’s feet necessarily get some rest too.

Overall, the reactions had Russell Westbrook’s NBA peers, and other fans, reacting positively to his dance moves. If Dwight Howard’s encouragement and the $360,000 prize are enticing enough, then we may see the Nugget make a mark on ‘Dancing With The Stars’ soon enough! What do you think?
