The Golden State Warriors continued their second-half resurgence with a second straight win after the All-Star break. After stomping on the Los Angeles Lakers, the Warriors asserted their dominance over the Charlotte Hornets with a commanding 97-84 win. While the game was pretty uneventful for the most part, tensions started flaring during the final few seconds of the game.

With roughly ten seconds left on the clock and the Warriors enjoying a comfortable 13-point lead, Golden State guard Lester Quinones attempted a layup, only for it to be goal-tended by Hornets’ wing Miles Bridges.  Taking offense at Quinones for breaking the unwritten rule of letting the clock run out during a blowout, Bridges escalated the confrontation with a forceful chest shove. In a matter of a few seconds, the calm ambiance descended into chaos, marked by frenzied pushing and shoving.

However, in a surprising twist, Draymond Green, who is usually quick to defend his teammates in such situations, turned his back this time. Instead of being his usual self and condemning the opposing teammate for their actions, Green expressed his love for Bridges. “Miles is my guy, he’s my little brother, so I’m not going to sit here and go in on Miles, Miles can do no wrong to me,” said Green during a post-game interview. A few fans were not pleased with Green’s statements, especially given Bridges’ history with his former girlfriend. Here are a few reactions from irate fans:

What’s even more outrageous is that Green could have easily avoided that comment during his impassioned tirade against Grant Williams. While Williams is known for his incessant trash-talking on the court, it was Miles who initiated physical contact first. Rather than addressing Bridges’ role in escalating the altercation, Green chose to focus his rant solely on Williams.

Draymond Green slams Grant Williams for his “tough guy” act

Green and Williams have a history dating back to the 2022 NBA Finals when they clashed multiple times during the Warriors-Celtics series. It seems that the former DPOY is now unleashing all his pent-up frustrations. During the same press conference, he called out Williams for his “tough guy” facade. He said, “Grant Williams got to stop it man. This tough guy (act) is going absolutely wrong for him. He’s a really nice guy.”

Green, well-acquainted with the backlash that comes with being an agitator, then proceeded to advise Williams against trying to be the team’s enforcer. “For some reason, he’s trying to jump on the unlikable side. I must tell you, it’s not always fun over here. It’s not always good,” added Dray.
