The grind never stops and so doesn’t LeBron James, set for season number 22 in the NBA. Apart from the overabundance of success, what sets LeBron’s run apart is how he did it. With constant pressure to succeed from Day 1, the Ohio native only smiled at his adversaries and kept producing result after result. Draymond Green, a 12-year veteran, witnessed it from a first-person perspective throughout the year and is still amazed at how far LeBron has come.

Recently the Golden State Warriors C shared a post on his IG story, featuring the promo for LeBron’s first nationally televised game. The caption on his story read, “Only had to be the best ever to not be considered a failure. And actually went it did it! Wow.” The promo featured stellar names like Wilt Chamberlain, Oscar Robertson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Magic Johnson and Michael Jordan, and posed a question, “Can LeBron James take his first step toward legendary status?” 

After 21 seasons, we know how that turned out. Another question stuck out as well- “How does it feel to know if you’re not eventually a 1st rank Hall of Famer, a lot of people will say you were a bust.” LeBron’s response to this was simple, and dare we say, legendary.

“There’s no pressure.” 

LeBron James dominated the high school basketball circuit, winning three state titles and scoring nearly 2,700 points for St. Vincent-St. Mary. What’s even more astonishing about him is the fact LeBron went to the NBA without being a college player. Kobe Bryant, Tracy McGrady and Kevin Garnett also did that, but none of them matched the longevity of LeBron or went on to win multiple championships (barring Kobe of course). According to Draymond, the 39-year-old had to become the greatest ever to save himself from being called a bust. Some statement that!

Draymond’s admiration for LeBron James doesn’t only stem from their business relationship. The Dubs and LeBron went to war against each other during his time with the Cavs where the 20-time All-Star showcased his excellence every time, despite ending up at the wrong end of the result. That doesn’t change Draymond’s perspective of LeBron as he described during an episode of First Take.

“I think LeBron yields a lot of power. As he should, I think arguably the greatest player of all time. If you look at his resume, it’s flawless,” Draymond said about LeBron. Explaining further, Green explained that not only the Lakers forward’s on-court brilliance but also his endeavors off of it add to his legacy as a player. The LeBron James Family Foundation focuses on community building and wellness of Ohio natives.

His I PROMISE program also empowers underprivileged kids of Akron with scholarships and mentoring. So leaving aside his accolades that merit a separate article altogether, it is safe to say, that LeBron James is the “Arguable” GOAT of the game, a status he achieved without pressure.
