Amid the infamous ‘The Curse of Lucky’ phenomenon, Draymond Green backed Kyrie Irving. The Dallas Mavericks didn’t have a perfect start to the 2024 Finals campaign. The Boston Celtics, along with the boisterous TD Garden crowd, defeated the visitors with a blowout 107-89 win. Following the loss, Dubs star Draymond Green addressed Uncle Drew‘s infamous streak at his former home arena. And he urged Irving to put an end to the misery.

The 8x NBA All-Star has had a long-standing rivalry with the Boston crowd since he left the franchise in 2019. Fans considered Irving’s departure as a betrayal and have continued to go after him. With booing and heckling on the court becoming a norm, the situation got out of hand when Irving disrespected the Celtics’ ‘Lucky’ logo. It not only infuriated the fans but also put the star on an infamous streak.

Ever since he stomped on the logo in the 2021 playoffs, the star has lost 10 games in a row at TD Garden. After the Game 1 loss, the record currently stands at 0-11. Addressing that in the latest episode of The Draymond Green Show, Green said, “I just want to see him get the monkey off his back because you know all it takes is just one game,” along with an impression of a sigh of relief. Moreover, he made it clear which team he will be “rooting” for as he openly revealed his support for the Mavericks.

Notably, Kyrie Irving didn’t have an answer for the Celtics’ defense as he had an embarrassing game in the middle. The star guard went 6-19 from the field, dropping only 12 points.

Moreover, he didn’t have any effect from the arc with a 0-6 3PA. On the other end, the Celtics rained down 16 three-pointers while the Mavs managed only 7. Kai’s ‘no show’ definitely has impacted the Mavs’ Game 1, leaving the team another victim of the curse.

Will Kyrie Irving break the curse?

After the Game 1 loss, Kyrie Irving immediately took to his X handle and sent out a message to the fans and teammates. He wrote, “Tribe, Keep GOD 1st and stay together. This mission is bigger than us. Hélà.” Moreover, while speaking to the press, he said, “It’s a lot of emotions going into it. Just waiting for the opportunity to get out there and compete. We are going against the great Celtics. We just have to get this out of the way… I have to take some accountability… I think my teammates did a great job.”

Irving’s statement doesn’t seem to be worried about the ‘curse’, as he had immediately put that behind him. Next up, the Mavs will again face the Celtics at TD Garden, and the Mavs should definitely level the series before heading into Dallas. Importantly, breaking the streak will bring a morale boost to Uncle Drew.

The Mavs have a burning requirement of fixing their defense in the coming days. Kristaps Porzingis ability to shoot the ball has spread out the court well for the Celtics and it has enabled them to shoot many three-pointers. Jason Kidd has a lot of homework to do before stepping on the courtside again.
