In the NBA, there are designated agitators. These defensive-minded phenoms engage in trash talk and sleek maneuvers to distract their opponents. Because of this attitude and the tendency to get in the opposition’s face, they can face punishments. There is only so much that the league tolerates these days. It has been tight on technicals and wants to curb all types of what it deems as “unlawful” conduct. To restrict such actions, they engage in fining players and these fines can pile up.
Dillon Brooks and Draymond Green are prime examples of athletes who face enormous fines. In this wake, let us look at the contrast between the monetary penalties.

If we combine the total fines, then the total sum is $1,991,077. Green has stacked up a mind-boggling $1,450,076 whereas Brooks had to pay $541,001. The difference in the sum has to be seen in terms of the total number of seasons.
Green is in his 12th season whereas Brooks is in his seventh season. If we examine fines per season then thus far, the Warriors’ forward has paid a mind-numbing $120,839. For Brooks, the average for a season is $77285. Therefore, even if we go into the average numbers, Green has paid $43445 more than the Rockets Guard.
The highest fine that the Warriors’ defensive stopper has faced is $177,976. He has faced such a fine twice. One of them came during the last playoffs when he stepped on the chest of Domantas Sabonis during the Warriors-Kings battle. And it was during the last season only when he faced a similar penalty.
Meanwhile, the Rockets Guard has faced a maximum penalty of $84,138. This happened against the Warriors during the 2021-22 Playoffs. Last season, he faced fines of $78,621 twice. These numbers come till the 2022-23 season. Brooks’ numbers are accelerating with each season.
Brooks is stacking heftier fines at a quicker pace
The most recent fine for Brooks came during the preseason when he was ejected. This came during the tussle against the Pacers when he hit Daniel Theis in the groin area. Because of this conduct, the league slapped him with a hefty $25,000 fine.

Since last season, his tendency to pick such fines has sky-rocketed. He had paid $70,000+ fines thrice in less than two years. Therefore, by the time he reaches the 12th season, he can have numbers similar to the 2017 DPOY. Whatever may be the case, in the grinding world of the NBA, teams need such agitators. They aren’t engaging in these shenanigans just because they like to talk trash or get lost in the intensity.
