Unlike the high offensive rating of the Golden State Warriors, it’s the defense that makes the franchise stand out. In tonight’s 120-109 win against the Detroit Pistons, the defense outshined the newly found talent of Ausar Thompson and Marcus Sasser.

However, Draymond Green not only acknowledged the defensive capabilities of these rookies but also appreciated them. In a recent media interaction post-game, Green turned to how rookies are changing the dynastic goal of scoring points and are instead focusing on defense.

Draymond Green on rookie defense

In a post-game interaction with the media, DrayMagic addressed how he is unable to form an all-defensive team because the rookies are raising the bar. To set the record straight, the four-time NBA champion made a statement about how tonight’s opponents put up a tough fight with defense.

Green said, “Man, look at this rookie class. It doesn’t really look like a rookie class. I mean, you put those guys in a game, and they don’t make mistakes like a rookie makes. And you know, it’s the same thing with the Thompson twins and Wemby.” He added, “I don’t know, man, I feel a way about the Thompson twins and Wemby because those guys are making it much harder for me to continue to make an all-defensive team.

Although it’s going to be tough for Draymond Green to sustain the 96.2 defensive rating (2015) of the franchise, the power forward expresses his joy for such young talent. Later on in the interaction, Green also revealed how Wemby and the Thompson twins differed from the “I gotta score” kind of players early on in the game.

However, the Warriors too lacked on defense in the third quarter tonight.

Putting on a show of dunks and dimes, Ausar Thompson couldn’t remain far away from the spotlight. However, it’s the defensive plays with a minimal foul tally that leave even the veterans spellbound. With such skills, it’s nearly impossible for the offensive players to create any separation from him off the dribble. Scoring a tally of 16 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 assists, the small forward again proved his metal.

However, Draymond Green of the Warriors just recorded 6 points, 8 rebounds, and 8 assists. On the contrary, Stephen recorded a 34-point score, 2 rebounds, and 4 assists. Further, Jonathan Kuminga and Cade Cunningham went head-on in the climax of the fourth quarter. Although the Warriors recorded a massive loss against the Cleveland Cavaliers before this win, the team still ranks No. 3 in the Western Conference.
