Three is more than two. The modern NBA seems to have taken this fact a bit too seriously, as there are more three-pointers being shot in today’s game than ever before. Although it makes sense as per the analytics, this style of play has garnered a ton of criticism from fans, accusing the teams of relying too much on the long-range shot, which can make Adam Silver’s product boring to watch. Of course, many blame Stephen Curry for this revolution, because after all, he is the superstar who made the three-pointer cool. But what does Steph have to say about the controversial topic?

Revealing his thoughts during the All-Star Weekend presser, Curry said, “That ruining the game thing, it’s just a charge and a challenge to if you wanna do that then get in the gym, get your reps in and earn it. So, I don’t have any problem with guys and teams shooting a lot of threes. Obviously, that’s the way that I play and I love that factor in the game, but you also gotta put the work in behind the scenes to take full advantage of it.”

Yes, Steph seems to have no issue with the three-point revolution as long as players put in the work to improve their shooting ability and are efficient at it.

As much as Stephen Curry gets blamed for this style of play, he shoots threes because he is the best at it. Despite the massive volume of shot attempts, ‘The Baby-Faced Assassin’ is a career 42.4% shooter from deep range, which is among the best ever. Moreover, no one calls his style of play boring because he has the ability to take over any game at any time, be it the Paris Olympics Final against France or clutch moments in the NBA.

But while Stephen Curry has no issue with today’s game, his running mate, Draymond Green, seems to disagree with him.

Reminiscing about his recent matchup with LeBron James, Draymond highlighted the problem with the modern NBA, “It was so refreshing to play against Bron because every possession is like a chess move… You don’t get that today in the NBA often… It’s just who can run faster, who can hit more threes. It’s no substance.” Of course, LeBron and the Warriors have been going at it for over a decade, and every time they meet it is must-see television.

But Green believes the league rarely produces that kind of basketball anymore. While accusations continue to come Silver’s way, he is trying to figure out a solution to this issue.

Adam Silver takes accountability for NBA’s 3-point problem, aims to keep “Competitive Tension” alive

Sure enough, the league commissioner realizes that something needs to be done to steer clear of the accusations. During the recent Paris Games, Silver clearly stated, “I don’t want to overreact, but I think there are potentially some adjustments we can make.” Obviously, teams adopted the three-point game because it helps them win championships in today’s era, and the Warriors proved it by bagging four titles in the last decade. Now, teams have no shot at winning if they don’t have multiple elite shooters on their roster.

But Silver understands that as important as it is to win, it’s also crucial to keep the games interesting. “It’s on us if we need to make adjustments in those rules because we’re also looking at the aesthetic appeal of the game,” the NBA Commissioner noted.

Moreover, Adam’s primary focus is on keeping the competition alive because, three-pointers or not, what fans love is a heated rivalry and teams going toe to toe on the hardwood. “The most important part from our standpoint is ensuring that there’s always competitive tension on the floor… I think fans like a certain aspect of the physical grinding that comes with this game. I don’t think we want that to be lost,” Silver remarked.
