In the age of the highlight reel, consistent play and low-key play are seldom acknowledged. Often, fans rapidly forget players who have been great because they don’t have highlight reels every night. However, Kyrie Irving changed that recently with his insane buzzer-beater over the reigning Finals MVP Nikola Jokić. It started a fresh conversation about Kyrie’s greatness, where everyone from Damian Lillard to NBA media chimed in to sing his praises. Draymond Green also joins them in recognizing the legend.

In the most recent episode of his podcast, Draymond Green said, “Kyrie Irving, the way he scores the basketball, the amount of things that he’s capable of doing, unbelievable. I saw Damian Lillard tweet, ‘Kyrie Irving is the most skilled player in NBA history,’ and quite frankly, I’m not sure who can argue against that.”

Moreover, he almost went against Stephen Curry to defend Irving’s skills. “The things that Kyrie is capable of is unreal. There’s an argument. Now, me personally, I may argue Steph Curry as the most skilled player we’ve ever seen, most talented, just some things that he could do. But as I said before, you have an argument. It has to be argued because the skill level is unbelievable,” said Green.

The difficulty of the shot was really what brought the appreciation for Irving.

Analysis of Irving’s Buzzer Beater after Draymond Green’s acknowledgement

With a mere 0.4 seconds left in a tense matchup, Irving delivered a clutch floating shot with his left hand, stunning the reigning NBA champions and snapping their five-game winning streak. Receiving an in-bounds pass from Maxi Kleber following a missed shot by Jamal Murray, Irving dribbled to just behind the free-throw line before sinking his remarkable left-handed runner. This victory marked the Mavs’ fifth win in their last six games, boosting their record to 39-29 as they vie for a playoff berth.

Irving’s contribution of 24 points, alongside Luka Doncic’s 37 points upon his return from a hamstring injury, ensured that the duo combined for over half of the Mavs’ total points. Irving has averaged 25.4 points, 5.3 assists, 5.1 boards, and 1.2 steals a night. In addition to that, he was shooting 90% in free throws. So, he has been contributing significantly behind Luka Doncic. If the Mavs are to make a playoff run, Kai’s magic will be a key factor for it.
