Is Bryce James the next big thing in basketball, or is the hype too much too soon?

Kiyan Anthony and Bryce James – two young basketball players who carry legendary last names. Given how their fathers, Carmelo Anthony and LeBron James, have locked horns on the court, many hope their sons will continue it. However, the 17-year-old has no plans of doing so. In fact, he was full of praise for Bryce. And it seems to be something Draymond Green also approves.

In the latest episode of Sloane Knows NEXT, which, if you remember, comes under Green’s media brand, ‘The New Media,’ Kiyan Anthony had another set of praise for potentially his future NBA teammate/opponent. When the soon-to-be 17-year-old basketball enthusiast asked if there was anyone Anthony believes is underrated or isn’t getting the recognition, offers, or love they deserve, he immediately said Bryce.

“I feel like he could get a little bit more recognition when it comes to offers and stuff like that just because him being who he is, people think everything is given to him. But he actually works hard. And I feel like he deserve a little bit more when it comes to that type of stuff. So I would say Bryce,” Kiyan said.

And Sloane completely agreed with him on that.

The 6’5 guard had spoken even more passionately about his relationship with Bryce James in his YouTube series, ‘The Kiyan Anthony Show’ on Overtime. “That’s like my cousin … everybody just want one of us to be like, ‘Oh, we better, oh, I’m way better than him’. Like we would never say that about each other. We just go out there and compete, and then the pins obviously gonna start flowing in,” he stated.

Having dealt with media attention, scrutiny, and criticism from a young age, Kiyan Anthony clearly has a good idea of the inner workings. And he seems intent on staying far away. But maybe there is another factor that has contributed to the pitting of these up-and-coming stars.

Bryce James sees a major bump in his NIL valuation as opposed to the No. 1 prospect from NYC

Kiyan Anthony is a four-star recruit and, as mentioned above, New York’s top prospect. And if that’s not enough, he is the son of 3x Olympic gold medalist and 10x All-Star Carmelo Anthony. While the youngster is steadily carving a path for himself now, these factors do matter when it comes to NIL evaluations. Yet, his NIL value is $726,000.

And while it ranks as No. 2 in high school basketball, it is a far cry from Bryce’s $1.3 million, per On3. That’s a difference of $574,000. Per NIL Top 100, the youngest son of James currently ranks 17th in the country. The only basketball player who has a higher NIL valuation is Duke’s Cooper Flagg at $1.5 million.

And that’s where the difference is. Bryce has $1.3 M in high school. Can you imagine how much the kid will be making when he goes to college? Then again, there are several factors that contribute to these numbers. The surname and game, sure. But there is this little thing called social media presence. And we all know none of the James gang aren’t lacking in that area!

Bryce has a combined social media following of 3.4 million. And Kiyan? 1.3 million. Definitely higher than you and me, but in the competitive and rapidly changing landscape of NIL, it means little. But there is still time. For now, though, Kiyan Anthony is focused on selecting the right college for developing his skills.

He has received offers from four programs – Syracuse, Rutgers, Florida State, and USC. Anthony has shown interest in going with Syracuse. But we never know until it is a done deal, yes? Keep checking this space for updates as they come.
