Back in 2016, during his fourth year in the NBA, Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green made headlines after he got into an altercation with head coach Steve Kerr. From the player reportedly shouting at Kerr about his shot selection to outright stating “Motherf***er, come sit me down!”, the situation did not take long to escalate to another level. Eight years later, Draymond Green provides his fans with more details of what transpired in that unfortunate incident.
A couple of hours ago, the Warriors star released another episode of his long-running show. Joining him as guest host was the player’s teammate and center Kevon Looney. During the discussion, Green revealed how Kevon Looney, who was drafted in 2015 and “hadn’t said a word all year”, was uncontrollably laughing while he and Steve Kerr were going at it. While the reported fight seemed to have gotten a laugh out of the quiet player, the two men involved in the middle of it were experiencing completely different feelings.
“Obviously, none of you were there for that moment, but in this moment, Steve wanted to kill me, and then he realized I wanted to kill him” Green revealed during the discussion. No matter how serious the moment was back then, both the Warriors players can now have a good laugh by diving into the nostalgic event. When looking back, they especially found it funny how shooting guard Klay Thompson attempted to break the fight apart by yelling, “We’re a team, you guys” and “DRAY! Shut up, man! He’s the coach, man!”

The incident took place on the very same night that Stephen Curry delivered one of the most iconic game-winning shots of his NBA career. According to reports, the situation between the player and the coach had gotten so heated at halftime that even the Oklahoma Police had to get involved. Green would later go on to publicly apologize for what transpired. While he also claimed that the actual events were allegedly “overblown” by media members, his most recent remarks do not indicate the same.
Draymond Green believed that he was going to be traded after Steve Kerr feud
Ever since he became a part of the Golden State Warriors, Draymond Green has had quite a few intense and controversial moments. Three such instances occurred during the most recent season itself, when the player allegedly put rival Rudy Gobert into a chokehold, stepped on Domantas Sabonis’ chest, and even hit Jusuf Nurkic. He received a suspension for these incidents. However, in 2016, Draymond Green thought that his altercation with Steve Kerr was going to provide him with the ultimate punishment.
According to Bleacher Report journalist Howard Beck, Green exited the arena after the matchup imagining a scenario where the Warriors management would choose to retain only one individual and send the other one off in a different direction. Despite having served with the Warriors for a longer duration, the player believed that Steve Kerr was a much more important individual for the team, having gotten the team their first NBA championship since 1975.
“One hundred percent,” said Green when asked if he thought he was going to get traded. “Especially with the success that he was having as a coach. Like, you just don’t get rid of that.”
Once Kerr sent out a letter to the player, stating that he loved and respected him, the duo began to mend their fences. Today, they seem stronger than ever, standing side by side to help take the Warriors to a whole different level each season.
