Three years ago, in February 2021, Draymond Green and Jayson Tatum got involved in an argument. Don’t worry, this is not one of Draymond’s usual fights, rather it was a commercial about whose Subway was better. While JT emphasized that his sub would help put more points on the board, Draymond shut him up with “my sub has more rings than your sub” claim. Back then, Draymond had three championship rings and the Celtics forward had none. The helpless Tatum hurriedly said that his sub had bacon to end the argument. But that wasn’t the whole story as it transcended to the court as well.
During the latest episode of The Draymond Green Show with Baron Davis, the topic surfaced once again. While talking to the former Warriors star about roasting, the host revealed a hilarious incident involving referee Tony Brothers. “He crushed me when I had to sub with a commercial,” the 4-time champion began. “When Tony come in, he come in here hot. He going straight at you every time. I had the subway commercial, he walked past our bench.” Draymond then took a moment to brief the guest about his advertisement.
“Tony came back (to) our bench. He said y’all got this soft a– motherf–ker over here. And I said, better than your sir,” and the two erupted in laughter. Despite the roast, the 36-year-old admitted to having a good relationship with the referee. Draymond is not the only one to mess up with him. In a league where the spotlight always shines brightly on the athletes, game official Tony Brothers has managed to draw attention to himself over the years. Whether through his unacceptable remarks on the court that led Jeff Teague to call him out publicly, or his questionable social media activities that resulted in Chris Paul receiving a technical foul, Tony has certainly made his mark.

Well, CP3 couldn’t have expected better treatment after calling him a “TikToker” last season during a game against the Pacers. The former Warriors guard didn’t stop at that, he also justified his point by posting a supporting video on his IG story after the defeat. However, that doesn’t change their bond with the officials and Draymond vouched for that.

Draymond Green opens up about his on-court vs off-court bonding
Draymond has often been spotted having on-court scuffles or verbal contradictions, but that does not mean he holds grudges against when he steps off the court. There are certainly some exceptions like Rudy Gobert, Jusuf Nurkic and so on, but since he plays with a lot of emotions, they tend to ooze out on the hardwood.

“I actually got a really good relationship with most of the referees. But you know me, when I’m in the heat of the battle, I ain’t sparing nobody,” Draymond stated. Draymond confessed that he had been asked not to go hard on his friends, but he could not help that. “Like bro, when I’m in the heat of the battle, like these referees, man, we just finished talking about my kids, their kids, high life for them, high life for me,” he added. “We just talked about but once we’re in the line of battle, it’s sparing nobody.”
What’s your perspective on:
Can Draymond Green's on-court antics cost the Warriors their shot at a fifth ring?
Have an interesting take?
That’s what Draymond is all about and it makes him who he is. His value to the Warriors is only second to that of Steph Curry and if there is a fifth ring coming, then Draymond has to stay away from any further commotions on the court.
