Home/Olympics

With his son Deuce in his arms, confetti flying everywhere, and the TD Garden filled with cheers from Boston fans, Jayson Tatum will likely never forget the moment he won his first NBA Championship. Losing in three Conference Finals and failing to beat the Warriors in the finals two years ago, the road to a title has been long and hard for JT. So, it is understandable why he would never want to let go of this feeling of reaching the mountaintop. However, Draymond Green believes that, following Tatum’s upcoming trip to the Paris Olympics, he might be struck by a sinking feeling that comes after winning a title.

Talking about the Celtics’ 18th NBA championship on The Draymond Green Show, the veteran star predicted that Tatum’s high from winning his first title might not last too long, “That high, that cloud that he’s rolling through on in life, in a few weeks he’ll go through this space of almost a depression.”

Winning an NBA championship is the peak of success for any basketball player, but what happens when the confetti settles and the cheers fade away? Yes, becoming a champion has its perks with players getting extra love from the fans and celebrity treatment every time they head out. However, once the parade is over and the festivities calm down, many players realize that they will have to repeat the same feat next season to feel this way again.

Speaking from his experience of winning four titles, Draymond claimed that Tatum might soon think, That feeling felt so good. My biggest fear is now to never feel that feeling again. However, with Tatum participating in the Paris Olympics in July, his focus will soon shift to bringing gold for the nation. And that will keep his mind off the dark void that Draymond is talking about, at least for some time. But once JT and the crew return to the States following the tournament, Tatum will realize that he can do nothing to fill the void until next June. However, despite winning the title, there is one thing that eluded Tatum.

Will Jayson Tatum’s post-championship ‘dark void’ prediction by Draymond Green resonate with NBA fans and players alike? REACT!

Winning his first title, Tatum is currently on cloud nine, and deservedly so. But there is one thing that will probably continue to haunt him even after becoming Champion the same way it did Stephen Curry for years. We are talking about him not being named the Finals MVP in his first title run. Except for the two games where JT scored thirty-one points each, he did not look like the best player on the court for the Celtics. Meanwhile, Jaylen Brown guarding the Mavs’ best player Luka Doncic the entire series, had a more impactful performance in these finals, thus sneaking away with the Finals MVP trophy.

Despite it being a team game and Brown crediting Tatum during his acceptance speech when the dust settles, many will use this to downplay Tatum’s legacy. This might just mirror the situation where Steph didn’t get the credit he deserved during his first three title wins, as he missed out on being named the Final MVP.

However, it wasn’t until his heroic performance in the 2022 finals, ironically against Jason Tatum and Co., that Curry finally bagged the trophy he was missing from his cabinet. So, maybe Tatum can use this criticism as motivation to fill the void that Draymond is talking about and focus on winning one more title, this time as the best player on the team.
