As the 200m race completed on Thursday, a tired Noah Lyles lay down on the side of the track paths. This had a lot of fans pondering what would have gone wrong for Lyles. It was later confirmed that he ran the race despite a positive COVID diagnosis. Seeing the unparalleled efforts of the 27-year-old star, athletes came forward in his support. And one-star baller to congratulate Lyles for his achievement was Draymond Green. But that did not happen without any error.

Green took to the social media networking platform X on Thursday to applaud Lyles for his efforts. “Noah Lyles 2 Golds and Bronze. Delivered!,” were Green’s words. Green forgot that Lyles had only won a singular gold and bronze and instead tweeted on X that Lyles had two golds. Surely, Lyles would have had two golds if not for COVID.

It would come off as a surprise but despite being COVID-positive Lyles won a bronze in the 200m dash falling behind only Letsile Tebogo, and Kenny Bednarek. Meanwhile, in the 100m dash, Lyles clinched the gold medal usurping Kishane Thompson and Fred Kerley.

Lyles had completed the 100m event with an exceptional 9.79 seconds timing which earned him a place as the 12th fastest man and was a personal best. Unfortunately, he failed to replicate that performance in the 200m where he had a timing of 19.70 seconds while his personal best was 19.31 seconds made in July 2022.

As reported by ESPN’s Coley Harvey, Lyles knew at 5 am Paris time that his body had some issues that were not from soreness from running. He called the doctors and the medical staff and had himself checked for COVID which unfortunately came positive. But that did not deter Lyles from giving his best in the 200m race as he “kept this close to the vest” up until the race finished. And then he spilled the beans.

Lyles shared that he held onto his nerves in such a tough situation and avoided panicking. He kept to himself quarantining in his room and making sure to take the necessary precautions. He also admitted to feeling proud of his achievements since the last Olympics he had to face disappointment.

“And I’d definitely say it’s taken its toll for sure but I’ve never been more proud of myself for being able to come out here and getting a bronze medal where last Olympic I was very disappointed and this time I couldn’t be more proud,” Lyles enumerated while also revealing that he had never considered running the 200m race finals.
