The Warriors have had a history of shocking the NBA world with their offseason moves. Their infamous acquisition of former MVP, Kevin Durant is still in the conversation, even after 7 years of this deal. In a recent interview, the Warriors owner, Joe Lacob cleared just that.

Joe Lacob took over the Warriors franchise back in 2010. He has since enjoyed tremendous success with the franchise, becoming one of the most decorated owners in the league. As the owner of the Warriors, he won 4 NBA championships with the side. The Warriors franchise rose to the highest ranks under his ownership. However, none of this would have been possible without the services of the “Big Three”, Stephen Curry, Draymond Green and Klay Thompson.
Stephen Curry was drafted by the Warriors in 2009. Since his draft, the “baby-faced assassin” has seen a remarkable rise to the top. Curry became arguably the greatest shooter of all time, leading the franchise to incredible heights. His teammates, Draymond Green and Klay Thompson played just as important a role as the 9x All-Star in this journey. This is why Lacob had no hesitation in saying he would like them to retire in the Warriors’ uniform.
When asked about their future with the franchise, Lacob said, “Certainly, we’d like Steph, Draymond, and Klay to retire as Warriors. That is my goal, our goal, and I think it’s good likelihood that’ll happen.”
Lacob made his intentions clear about the Warriors “Big Three” but the question about their approach for the coming season was still looming. The Warriors owner cleared out those questions in the same interview, issuing some stern statements.

The Warriors have been a highly active team this offseason. Several moves of theirs raised the eyebrows of NBA fans but nothing like the acquisition of Chris Paul did. Before the free agency window opened, Warriors traded Jordan Poole, in a stunning trade. Poole is a 24 year old that was coming off his best season statistically for an 18-year veteran in the league, Chris Paul.
When asked about the Warriors’ questionable moves, Lacob replied “The trade was a multi-faceted decision.” He further mentioned what he thought of the future Hall of Famer Paul, saying “We had to change something. While it’s a short-term move, Chris Paul is a fabulous Hall of Famer who will I think help our second unit, help our first unit if he plays there, wherever he plays, he’s a tremendous guy.”

However, he then went on to talk about the direction the Warriors were heading into ahead of the coming season. “We can be good for several years, not just one, but we definitely want to win. We’re doing everything we can. We’re gonna have a huge payroll this year, the biggest in the history of the NBA, and we’re trying to win. I can’t try any harder, we’re trying everything we can”, he strongly stated.
Joe Lacob seems confident about the Warriors’ approach heading into the season. However, after all their moves in the offseason, the team has a very different look. With the new players and help acquired, will the Warriors become championship contenders again? Will their offseason moves pay off in the long run? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
