Is Draymond Green more suited for WWE than the NBA with his constant on-court antics?

Controversies have always attached themselves to Green or rather vice versa. As great as the Warriors star is at getting stops, he has had his dark times, often getting chippy with his rivals. During the most recent season though his frustrations seemed to have gotten the better of him. Green was regularly involved in disruptive and unsportsmanlike moments. His strike at Jusuf Nurkic came as the last straw. The NBA handed him a 12-game suspension, which Green utilized to get back on his feet and reflect on his actions.

But while he has since worked toward healing, the past unfortunately has always stuck with him. And some athletes have even talked about the Warriors forward having an alternative career in combat sports. Here are the five times it did happen.

Patrick Beverley didn’t have to think long for his answer

Beverley too is an agitator like Green. He loves to be the ‘villain’ and embraces the drawbacks that come with assuming the role. He too has had some incidents in the past. Most notably, he pushed Chris Paul during their playoff encounter three years ago. But even then, he didn’t include himself when he was asked about NBA players who could transition to the WWE.

Green though was his first option. “Draymond for sure in that b***h” he said on his podcast after having been to the Wrestlemania event. In typical Pat Bev style though, he didn’t stop a one. The former Lakers guard provides a whole range of players, including an acrobat and a tag team that he could envision being in the WWE.

Draymond Green got the green light from a former WWE champion

Banter is among the things that helps NBA stars bond and create a camaraderie. However, one WWE superstar seriously saw Green’s persona being an appeal in the wrestling world. And having been a former WWE champion, his words carried some gravitas. When asked in July this year, The Miz named Green among his five NBA stars who could succeed in the WWE.

He chose the dauntless forward mainly for the character that he would be. His rebel traits were something Miz saw as a selling factor. Drama, infatuating rivalries, and entertainment are a mainstream part of the wrestling business. That’s how the Miz saw Green being placed within the setting.

Damian Lillard saw boxing potential within Draymond Green

No, it wasn’t due to his infamous incident with Jordan Poole. Growing up, Damian Lillard and his family watched the biggest bouts together and he has since trained for the sport in the offseason too. While on the Dan Patrick Show, the host asked him about his NBA peers who could successfully hack the science.

Lillard cited Draymond Green for his tough and hard-nosed mentality while also naming himself on the list. Standing at 6’6″, Green does boast the ability to withstand contact while also having the mental awareness to web together an offense. If he did commit himself to learning, there is a chance he could be a functional boxer using these tools.

Jayson Tatum was the most recent to endorse the Warriors star

Recently, the Celtic ace appeared on the Jimmy Fallon show to speak about his newest children’s book and NBA championship triumph. A part of the show though is a range of fun segments. Fallon asked Tatum about one NBA star who could have a second career as a WWE wrestler. And Tatum’s expressions didn’t hide his reasoning behind naming Green.

Him and Tatum, despite having faced in an NBA Finals in 2022 share a close friendship with one another. He was among the few NBA players invited to Green’s wedding with his longtime partner Hazel Renee two years ago. Other tars included Stephen Curry, LeBron James and more.

Draymond Green in the UFC?

At the height of his controversial last season, Skip Bayless and Nick Young discussed his aggressive behavior. Swappy P, a former teammate of Green’s admitted “Draymond has a lot of UFC in him”. In the short time they shared on the Warriors, Young had to endure a form of friendly bullying at the hands of the four-time champion.

But his following comments were absurd. Young thought there was an agenda behind Green’s physical actions, saying he was specifically targeting European basketball players. To his point, all of his recent incidents did involve foreign-born players such as Nurkic, Rudy Gobert, and Domantas Sabonis. But in the heat of the competition, he has also clashed with USA players, the most iconic being his groin shot on his now close associate LeBron James in the 2016 NBA Finals.

Green was later suspended for one game for his actions, which many argued played a vital role in the Cavaliers’ stellar fightback during that series. Previously, WWE star Bayley has also spoken about Green having the potential to gravitate into the WWE. Obviously, these aren’t to be taken seriously as Draymond Green is an outstanding baller with more highlight moments than fights.

But even then, there could be a time in the future where he does consider an appearance opportunity, similar to what Tyrese Haliburton and Jalen Brunson did recently. Would you be willing to see the Warriors star have a wrestling watch? Let us know in the comments below.
