Is Draymond Green the real mastermind behind the Warriors' success, overshadowing even Curry and Klay?

A menace. That’s what Draymond Green is for his opponents, and sometimes for his teammates too. After picking up a tech in the opening game, Draymond made the bold claim of not having more than 10 techs to his name this season. And so far he’s been on his best behavior. Looking more like his former self, the former DPOY has been the key to the Dubs’ defense and that now got the stamp of approval from his wife as well.

In a recent viral video, Draymond Green is seen instigating the Mavs squad with his antics. He was not only guarding Luka Doncic but also constantly giving instructions to his teammates throughout the game. In the clip, Draymond can be heard shouting “Boom” at the Slovenian star. He also gave on-court instructions to his teammates, urging them to stay alert to Kyrie Irving’s movements, as he anticipated plays being run through Irving.

At one point, Draymond was spotted motivating Andrew Wiggins from the sideline, saying, “He’s afraid to even step over when he sees you coming down the lane. Go score!” His vocal leadership was evident when he gathered Wiggins and Jonathan Kuminga during the game to convey a key strategy, “When we go up three, and they cross half court, take the foul.” Proud of her husband’s on-court presence, Hazel Green shared the video on her IG story with the caption, “A Real IQ Menace On That Court.” No wonder he’s called the Warriors’ mastermind.

The video ends on a heartwarming note, with Draymond Green hugging Klay Thompson and saying, “Love you, bro. Way to hoop.” While Stephen Curry may officially lead the team, it’s the 34-year-old Green who continues to push them forward. Although his numbers on Tuesday night didn’t crack the top four on his team, it helped him unlock a new achievement.

Draymond Green joins the elite list following his performance against the Mavericks

In his 32 minutes on the court, Draymond Green delivered an all-around performance, scoring 11 points while dishing out 6 impressive assists to set up his teammates. While some might feel that’s not enough, well it got him the entry ticket to an exclusive list with LeBron James and Nikola Jokic as the toppers.

Have an interesting take?

According to StatMamba, Draymond Green grabbed the third spot in the NBA history books for playing the most games as a non-guard with over 10 assists. Thrilled with the achievement, the forward shared the news with his Instagram followers, joking, “Let me guess… I only got assists because someone had to make the shot.” He further added, “Sometimes I pinch myself … You’ve done great things young man from Saginaw.”

Keeping aside the occasional altercation and his fiery antics, there’s no denying Draymond’s unmatched defensive prowess, which earned him the 2017 DPOY title and a spot in the league’s All-Defensive First and Second Teams four times each. While Curry and Klay often steal the spotlight for their scoring feats, Green has been equally crucial to the Warriors’ success and his greatest quality is to pass on his wisdom to the younger players on the team.
