Sometimes, the superstars have to be brutally honest in order to get the job done. And, this is what Stephen Curry also did amid the Warriors‘ frustrating slump. The Bay Area hero did nothing but call the team “mid” after losing 2024’s last game against the Cleveland Cavaliers. Almost 10 days later, the ace shooter’s teammate Draymond Green had a surprising reaction to the statement and revealed the impact that was left on the team.

Like an old tune playing from a worn-out record, everyone knows the Dubs’ frustrating downfall since the 12-3 start. While Steph kept believing in his team all these days, after the loss against the Cavs, he said, We’re very mid right now… We’re just very average.” forcing the team into the trade market. However, since the statement, the Dubs have a 3-2 record, including their recent win over the Pistons.

Now that the team has a decent record since the statement, Draymond Green revealed his honest reaction in his podcast, which aired before the Pistons’ game. DrayMagic said, “I sat and start thinking about it. I’m like, ‘Yeah, I get what he’s saying. I get where he’s coming from.’ We are definitely like right at .500, like right middle of the pack. Very mid and we heard him and I think we’ve played a little better since.”

Moreover, Green addressed it from the team’s perspective and revealed how difficult it was to accept it. He added, “It’s a hard pill to accept and we haven’t accepted it because we still think we got a chance and we could write to ship but it’s tough so for him to just come out and say it like hey it’s real elephant in the room.” It’s truly a tough and humble statement from a superstar who won 4 championships in 6 Finals over the last decade. But did the statement have any effect on the team?

The Golden State Warriors have everything in their bag. Championship experienced players, athletic frontcourt, ace shooters, and even a promising youth movement. Yet the team struggles to convert their talent into wins. With Jimmy Butler, Brandon Ingram, and Zach LaVine hovering over the trade city, the Dubs have found themselves again in the trade rumors.

Nevertheless, ever since Curry made that statement, the team showed promising signs. In fact, the superstar himself had a personal best outing this season, dropping 8-8 FG from the deep against the Phillies. It was right next game after he made that statement.

Moreover, speaking of the positive impact of the statement, Green said, “It can also give guys confidence because it gives them like that freedom and this what we need to do right and so then they don’t have to live up to the pressure that’s been created by what we’ve done.”

Well, we can say that Green has predicted the future. In tonight’s game, the team managed to win without Andrew Wiggins, Jonathan Kuminga, and Brandin Podziemski in the lineup. Above all, we saw a promising effort from Gui Santos, Kevon Looney, and Lindy Waters III. So, the superstar’s statement seemed to have taken the pressure off the young ones. What do you think?
