It’s Drake’s world and we live in it! The multimillionaire rapper has once again pulled a stunt and plans on permanently changing the name of the Scotiabank Arena. Drake, who is also the ambassador of the Toronto Raptors, had two sold-out shows lined up for Friday and Saturday at the Scotiabank Arena, after the release of his album ‘For All the Dogs’.

The Arena, located in his hometown Toronto, also happens to be the Raptors’ home arena. The $52 billion worth Canadian Bank hosted Drake at their arena for his shows, and even went the extra mile to show him a friendly gesture by changing the arena’s name to OVO, (October’s Very Own) Drake’s brand name.

Well, Drake seized the opportunity on this by declaring that the new name will permanently stick around. Sporting a Nike bulletproof vest and sleek braids, the Canadian rapper makes his plans known. In a snippet of the concert seen on a video uploaded by ‘BASKETBALL ON X’ on X, the rapper is seen telling excited fans, “I want you to forget about everything. I will play some classics for ya’ll with a little twist on them“.

After ramping up the fans’ excitement, he continues, “You saw they (Scotiabank) were kind enough to change the name of the arena tonight from Scotiabank to OVO Arena, which one day, that will be permanent, by the way“. This further hypes up the crowd who respond with a loud cheer.

Scotiabank, look out!

Scotiabank bought the naming rights for the arena for a whopping $80 million, but they might have to watch out for the Canadian rapper who has his eyes set on the prize. Drake’s fans know that he is one of the biggest fans of the sport and an even bigger fan of the Raptors; we can’t blame him, it’s his home team.

And to no one’s surprise, he became the team’s ambassador in 2013, joining the executive committee. Drake might have been joking about his takeover, but it’s Drake. What’s stopping him, really? He might start his own team afterward. Despite all, one thing’s for sure, he loves the game and the players so much that he often makes quite the number of basketball references in his songs.
