The choice of song says a lot about a person. It reflects what a person relates to, what gets them going, and what makes them zone in. Those who’ve followed Stephen Curry throughout his NBA journey are no strangers to the sight of the Golden State Warriors star checking in for a game with his ears covered with a headpiece.

The mood sets in accordingly and, believe it or not, it somewhat affects the output on the court. And the Golden State Warriors fans can thank Drake for helping Curry maintain his otherworldly exploits throughout the years. Curious how? Let’s dive in.

Earlier this year, Stephen Curry took to social media to open a locked-away gate to his taste in music. In the video, Curry is locked in with headphones around his ears, and a playlist is revealed. “In The Room” by Maverick City Music, “Standby” by Trip Lee, Toby Nwigwe’s “Lil Fish, Big Pond” (a song where he rapped some verses) were on that list. But only Drake had multiple songs on the playlist, with tracks like “Evil Ways” and “First Person Shooter” being the noticeable ones. This might give Raptors fans mixed feelings about Drake, knowing he fuels Curry’s fire.

His love for music goes beyond listening. Curry even joined Paramore’s Hayley Williams on stage to sing “Misery Business” in August last year during a show at Chase Center. Indeed, music has always played a significant role in Curry’s life. And his reaction after Team USA’s latest win over Serbia proved that again.

Tension creeps into Team USA camp after Stephen Curry disapproves of music choice

Just like music sets Curry free on the court, it can have a disastrous effect on him when the wavelength of the song doesn’t match his. The same thing happened recently, but thankfully for Steph and Team USA, the agitation caused by a specific song came after the game against Serbia. In a recently surfaced video showing post-game happenings in the USAB camp, Steph was heard saying, “Damn with this song… It’s not the only song in America.” The reaction came after the speakers in the arena boomed with Kendrick Lamar’s hit “Not Like Us.” Opposing Curry, his long-time rival (now USAB teammate) LeBron James vouched for the singer’s hit by saying that it’s his favorite song.

The disagreement between the two adds another layer to the Drake-Kendrick Lamar beef that has gripped the internet for months now. LeBron’s recent actions have clearly shown his allegiance in the Drake-Kendrick Lamar divide. And to add to that tension, Stephen Curry’s flat-out dismissal of Lamar’s hit might be indicative of where he stands regarding the bickering. Will it have a lasting effect on Team USA? Probably not, but one can be sure of it only after witnessing Curry and LeBron’s tandem action during the South Sudan game on July 21.
