Josh Hart once wrote, “Those colors are (fire emoji)” after catching Donovan Mitchell endorsing the boys in blue and orange. Unfortunately, this was not an endorsement of the New York Knicks, but rather the New York Mets. Despite having spent the majority of his NBA career alongside the Jazz and the Cavs, Spida’s love for the baseball franchise is no hidden secret. Joey Tribbiani once famously said, “The Mets Suck,” and their luck has not seemed to have turned out any better in recent times. However, the team’s showcase today suggested a tilt, probably for good, and the hooper is here to endorse it!
In the recent game against the Milwaukee Brewers, the Mets ended up recording their 2nd win in four days through a 4-2 score. Much of the credit for the same goes to Francisco Lindor, José Quintana, and Pete Alonso. While Lindor went 2-for-3 with a double and a single, Quintana dominated in six innings while striking out five and allowing four hits along with a walk. It was Alonso’s three-run homer in the end that boosted the Mets to their significant win.
Impressed by what he saw, Donovan Mitchell posted a reaction on X: “One of the best @Mets wins of my life.” With the game marking the NY team’s first playoff series win since making it to the World Series in 2015; it might have been one of the best wins for many!

Mitchell’s happiness, unfortunately, may have turned out to be a disappointment for one of his peers. While the Cavaliers star was definitely viewing the MLB game, one hooper who was right there in the stadium was Giannis Antetokounmpo! The ‘Greek Freak’ was captured donning a Milwaukee Brewers jersey, with his name on the back and iconic Number 34.
Being his home team and the one in which the hooper invested back in 2021, the Bucks star has been a longtime supporter. This allowed him to even thrown the first pitch during a game held almost a week ago. However, with the team holding a 1-2 record after the recent loss, Giannis may not be the happiest person today.
One of the best @Mets wins of my life ‼️‼️‼️

The Cavs’ shooting guard’s love for the MLB team, and baseball as a whole, has originated thanks to his father. After all, Mitchell Sr has famously served as both the minor league manager and coach of the Mets. Today, he continues to serve as the Mets’ Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. According to LinkedIn, he has held the position since December ’21.
The Mets also acknowledged the love that the NBA star has for them, showcasing him as a special guest during a Mets-Yankees game in June and even allowing him to participate in batting practice!
For some, the love for their favorite baseball team would stop at just giving them a shoutout online or attending their games. However, Donovan Mitchell has gone beyond the capabilities of an average fan, just because he can!
Donovan Mitchell introduced Mets inspired colorway on the 5 edition of his signature shoe: “My version of Mr. Met but as a basketball player”
Michael Jordan famously passed over Adidas to partner up with Nike and change the trajectory of the basketball sneakers world. However, this didn’t stop others from partnering up with the German brand, with Donovan Mitchell having been associated with them since 2015. Along with the famous D.O.N Issue #1 and #2 sneakers that featured Spiderman themes, the NBA star’s signature has introduced some other variants as well. For the 5th edition, he wanted to bring out his love for the Mets.
Back in January, Mitchell joined ‘Overtime Kicks’ to drop a sneak peek of his D.O.N 5s. While the major part of the shoe was covered in white, it also carried streaks of orange and blue on it. The player revealed the reasoning behind it by stating, “I’m a big Mets fan, so that’s where the orange, blue and white comes from, got the gum buttoms. And on the inside, it has my version of Mr. Met but as a basketball player.”
For the hooper, this was his own way of fulfilling a now unreachable dream, as he revealed “I thought I was gonna be a baseball player, play for the Mets one day and you know, so this is kind of like paying homage to that.”

Suffice it to say that Donovan Mitchell made the right choice when he chose basketball over baseball. However, if a ‘What If?’ scenario had to be considered, we know that the player would have been as dedicated a Mets athlete as anyone could be.
