The unsung hero Domantas Sabonis created a massive wave in the NBA world tonight. The Sacramento Kings‘ big man went on to break the 13-year-old record for the most consecutive double-doubles in the NBA world. Kevin Love previously held the record, who dropped 53 double-doubles during his time with the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Tonight, Sabonis picked up from where he left off and dropped 10 points and 10 rebounds before the end of the third quarter. Currently, in his hot streak, he has the most consecutive double-doubles (54) since the ABA-NBA merger. Notably, on this historic night, the star also dropped a triple-double, the 25th of this season.

The 27-year-old star had a breakout season this year after a series of underwhelming seasons. This season, he has performed at an average of 20 points, 13.7 rebounds (career-high), and 8.3 (career-high) assists per game. The big man kept his consistency intact and produced 54 double-doubles in a row, which is the most consistent stretch in the last 50 years. Following his feat, Kevin Love took to his X handle to appreciate the star with a special message.

Love reposted the Kings’ X post and wrote, “And counting…!!! Congrats to the new Double-Double,” with a crown emoji. Apart from his consistent effort on the court, Sabonis has kept himself free from injuries. He has played every single game so far this season.

Tonight, he played for 33 minutes and dropped 11 points, 10 assists, and 13 rebounds to help the Kings win their 42nd game of this season. The Kings hosted the Philadelphia 76ers for the Monday night match-up and ended the historical night with a comfortable 108-96 win. Moreover, Domantas Sabonis didn’t break a double-double record but also found himself a place in NBA history with tonight’s triple-double as well.

If Sabonis continues his form through the playoffs, the Kings can go on to win their first championship in 73 years. They are currently in the sixth seed in the west, almost securing their spot for the playoffs. Apart from Sabonis, the Kings also have De’Aaron Fox, Malik Monk and Keegan Murray to help the franchise cross the line.
