By now, everyone knows that Victor Wembanyama is easily one of the tallest in the league. Of course, he is going to have to hit a growth spurt if he’s going to become the tallest in NBA history. But for now, of all the active players, Wembanyama stands tall, literally. Victor seems to be uniquely blessed with the height and talents that make him a coveted player.

That too at 19 years of age. As of now, the Frenchman is all for the Spurs. With Popovich to train and coach him, we can expect great things to happen. Grant Williams, among others, is in awe of his skills despite the problems that might come from being that tall. And he should know.

During his rookie years at the Boston Celtics, Williams had started a friendship with a 7’6 giant, Tacko Fall. Though Fall went undrafted, the Celtics offered him an Exhibit 10 contract for 2019. Watching the 7’4 Wembanyama on the court, he is reminded of his time with Tacko.

Talking about his time playing with the big man, Grant mentions a few instances of ‘unintentional’ hits. “My rookie year, when I played with Tacko like, he doesn’t know where his body was … you expect that, you normally hitting a chest, but he hit my full neck in the first quarter.”

So there you go. Being that tall comes with advantages and disadvantages. Tacko Fall himself went undrafted because he kept using his height and size as his strengths instead of trying to learn new angles or tricks to up his game. Aside from that, he and Grant became fast buddies.

During the NBA Draft Combine in Chicago, Grant saw a wide-open lane that would have given him a guaranteed dunk. But standing in front of him was Fall. It was bound to be a failure and yet Williams took the shot. Of course, Tacko blocked it. That was how their friendship started. A dunk gone wrong and two men became friends.

But Wembanyama seems to be doing his homework in that area. Not only is his size and height incredible, his skill set is magnificent.

Wembanyama’s strengths that featured him as No.1 in the draft prospects

Aside from the fact that he is the youngest player to be named MVP, Wembanyama brings the best of both worlds to the table. Always picked out for his skinny limbs and lanky frame, these same features also played a huge part in his selection process.

Coming straight out of France, Victor had already made headlines in Europe. His ability to roam the perimeter and shoot the ball like a guard makes him a versatile player. He can also play from all the five positions. Wembanyama’s towering length helps him score over defenders as well. With him under Popovich’s wing, it won’t be long before Victor will be running the court like his own personal playground.
