What was going to be Denver calling the shots and neatly wrapping up the second round turned out to be an embarrassing matchup. The Minnesota Timberwolves decimated the Nuggets 115-70 at Target Center; a 45-point trench! While the Wolves fans hoped they would get the win, even they were preparing to hear the terrible news. But of course, Anthony Edwards and Co. rallied to deliver a masterclass tonight. Amidst the joy and celebration, a few Minnesota fans are getting annoyed for a reason that’s been around for quite some time – A-Rod.
The MLB legend is a part owner of the franchise. However, that’s a partnership fans aren’t too pleased about. And they have no qualms about making it known! Alex Clancy, a podcaster, made his displeasure known with some strong words. “Alex Rodriguez, the player who cheated while playing Major League Baseball multiple times, doesn’t deserve to be in the same state as Anthony Edwards.”

This user is, of course, referring to the Biogenesis scandal and A-Rod’s use of performance-enhancing drugs multiple times after he vowed to stay clean. Seeing as how Rodriguez and Marc Lore, the billionaire entrepreneur, have yet to get majority ownership of the Minnesota franchise, Clancy’s statement is probably in the hope it never works out.
The Marc Lore-Alex Rodriguez-Glen Taylor relationship dates back to 2021 when the latter agreed to sell the organization (Wolves and Lynx) for $1.5 billion. The agreement then was to buy the team in three installments – 20%-20%- and another 40% this March. It would have made the Rod-Lore duo majority owners, leaving the final 20% to Taylor and other investors.
Unfortunately, the final 40% payment never happened. Glen canceled the deal, saying, “The closing was required to occur within 90 days following the exercise notice issued by Lore and Rodriguez. That 90-day period expired on March 27, 2024.”
Of course, the World Series Champion wasn’t going to take this lying down. “It is now personal. We can be in this for five years, 10 years, whatever. We’re not going to let go,” he had told The Athletic.
Not that it has in any way helped his popularity with the Minneapolis fans.
A-Rod’s presence amongst Anthony Edwards and Co. has Wolves fans howling with rage
The Rodriguez hate wasn’t limited to just the comment above. This next individual here specifies the one and only aspect he dislikes about the TWolves. “If there’s one thing I do dislike about the Timberwolves it’s that Alex Rodriguez is part of ownership. F that dude.” The 40% minority stake Rod and Lore have in the franchise means that they still have ownership rights, albeit a minimal one.
But rights are rights and he will continue to show up. No matter how much the ‘North Star State’ wishes otherwise. Another irritated fan commented, “Alex Rodriguez trying to own the timberwolves is so random. You from New York and you played in Texas and Seattle.” He was clearly stating (in a roundabout way) that the 14x MLB All-Star was unwelcome in Minneapolis.

Unfortunately, as said earlier, money and power fly far above wishes and dreams. So, the Wolves fans will have to continue to watch A-Rod flaunt his minority ownership. Interestingly, though, amid the strained comment section, one user manages to find humor. “Alex Rodriguez telling them boys to get back on defense after scoring a basket to put them up 17 is exactly the typa owner you want.”

Whatever got him all fired up, Anthony Edwards and Co. outdid themselves tonight. Undoubtedly! As for the ownership drama, it will probably drag far longer than a telenovela. Hopefully, you can find the humor in it, like our good friend above.
