In just one year, Victor Wembanyama has turned from a rookie sensation to a global icon. Well, it didn’t take long for people to realize that they had never seen a player quite like him before. After getting picked Number 1 in the draft, Wemby dominated every night even though the Spurs struggled to win games all season. Then, he carried that momentum to the Paris Olympics and led his country to the gold medal match.

His parents Felix Wembanyama and Elodie de Fautereau, being renowned athletes in their own rights, were the ones who pushed Victor and his two siblings, Eve and Oscar, to enter the world of sports. Sure enough, all three of them were drawn to basketball because their mother was also a professional ball player. Meanwhile, his father was a track and field star and passed on his knowledge to the three kids, which explains how Victor is so athletic and agile despite being 7’4”.

Even though Victor is currently the most accomplished of the three siblings, Eve and Oscar have also played at a high level on the international stage. It was only seven years ago that Eve helped France win the U16 FIBA World Championship. With a diverse athletic background, Wemby was destined to achieve greatness, “I mean, I had the choice and I still have the choice to play or not play basketball, but basketball has always been around. I can’t avoid it in my family.”

While Wemby is getting all the love from his family, he doesn’t seem in any hurry to get into a romantic relationship anytime soon as he still has a long way to go in the NBA.
