Team USA’s young and explosive shooting guard has multiple challenges awaiting him in Paris. Notably, these quests are not only on basketball courts but also on a ping-pong table! Playing alongside the hoop veterans, Ant-Man initially didn’t really have to break a sweat. However, after a small interaction with the USA’s table tennis team during the opening ceremony, the Minnesota leader may have to keep his game face outside of basketball games too.

On the day of the opening ceremony, a video went viral on social media of Anthony Edwards interacting with the US’s table tennis players, which included Lily Zhang. In that video, Stephen Curry can be seen challenging the Wolves guard to defeat the pros. Responding to it, Edwards said, “I got some people, they gonna beat me in ping-pong 21-0. I don’t believe it. 11-0, I’m scoring one point!” 

And, he eventually accepted the challenge when he said, “How? When’re we gonna do that? Whenever.” It leaves the sporting world with only one question: Does he know how to play table tennis? While Anthony Edwards had made an adamant claim about his ability to play multiple sports in his rookie season, there is also evidence of the star playing the sport.

In 2020, a much younger Ant-Man unsettled an interviewer when he claimed to play any sport, saying, “Tennis, swimming, lacrosse, I’m gonna go do it if it’s some money on the line.”

Even though the 22-year-old sported a Team USA jersey in the video, this isn’t from 2024. This video is from the 2023 FIBA WC where the team faced a humiliating hardwood exit.

Nevertheless, it’s quite clear that Edwards can play the sport, but it also leaves us with another question. Will he play against Team USA’s Table Tennis? Even though there isn’t any clarity, the star’s recent act in Paris almost confirmed that fans could witness cross-sport action.

Anthony Edwards showers love and support for Team USA’s Lily Zhang!

The Wolves star can be often found on the hardwood, rocking the rim with his thunderous dunks. However, recently he was found in a different spot, cheering from the nosebleeds. A video of Anthony Edwards again went viral, hyping up Lily Zhang at the table tennis tournament. Zhang, representing Team USA, took on Brazil’s Bruna Takahashi in the Round of 32. The game went down the wire and Zhang pulled off a close win with an intense point in the fifth set to clinch the game.

After the set-winning point, the camera panned toward Anthony Edwards, and he can be seen hyped by the win.

The 6x women’s singles champion went on to win this knockout game four sets to two and qualified for the Round of 16, inching closer to winning Gold for Team USA. On the other hand, the Hoopers already made a statement with a dominant win over Serbia.

They have two more games in the group stage before heading into the knockouts. Notably, the team faces South Sudan in the next encounter. It’s the one challenge that the US should be aware of, especially after nearly losing to them in exhibition games. Amid this intense time, will Ant-Man find time to play against Lily Zhang?
