Andrew Wiggins has battled adversities over the last few years. In the last two NBA seasons, the Golden State Warriors forward missed a bunch of games, citing personal reasons. And, upon his return to court, the star struggled to find his rhythm. Eventually, he also served some time from the bench. To top it all, he lost his father, Mitchell Wiggins, who was an NBA player in the late 1980s. As we all Andrew has been already carrying his father’s legacy, does he have a helping hand from his siblings? Especially his elder brother Nick.
Yes, indeed. Andrew Wiggins belongs to a huge family with five siblings. Standing out of the rest, the 29-year-old went on to follow in his father’s footsteps, making a mark in the NBA. In fact, he went a step ahead and won a championship in 2022. Mitchell entered the league, playing for the Chicago Bulls, followed by a 4-season stint with the Houston Rockets and a single season with the Philly side.
However, Wiggins Sr. couldn’t make a necessary, so he took his talent to Greece. Meanwhile, his wife Marita Payne had won two silver medals as a track athlete in the 1984 Olympics, representing Canada. With an athletic gene already running their blood, Mitchell Sr’s legacy is already intact. Now, let’s take a closer look at all five siblings individually with the available information.

Mitchell Wiggins Jr.
Mitchell Jr. is the eldest sibling of the Wiggins family. And following his father’s footsteps he was quick to pick up the basketball in his childhood. Mitchell Sr., speaking in an interview for the Toronto Star in 2013, expressed his trust in all his kids to make a mark in the sporting world. He said, “They all had a dream to follow what I did… They grew up in the gym, and mom and dad are athletes, so a lot of things came naturally for them. But they pushed each other, too”
Unfortunately, Mitchell Jr. couldn’t make the necessary impact during his collegiate career. He came out as an exceptional talent at Southeastern University in Lakeland, Fla, but a shoulder injury had put a hurdle so early in his career. After only playing 10 games in the school, averaging 15.4 points, didn’t return to the court. Moreover, there isn’t any notable basketball appearance following that.

While Mitchell Jr. could carry his career to the professional realm, Nick made it possible. Unlike his other two brothers, Nick didn’t play for a single college team, but three. Notably, he played for Wichita State for two seasons, averaging 5.0 ppg. In 2014, he alongside Andrew declared for the draft. In which, the Cleveland Cavaliers selected Andrew with the 1st pick and later traded him to the Minnesota Timberwolves. On the other end, Nick went undrafted.
Nevertheless, Nick took his talents to international leagues in Germany and Thailand, where he won a championship. Apart from that, he was so close to making his NBA debut alongside his brother in the Wolves fold. After playing in the G League and Summer League, the team cut him just months before the regular season in 2015.
Speaking of Nick, Andrew said, “Nick was always the more social one… always the more outgoing one. He had that kind of personality where if he walked into the room, everyone knew who he was. He kind of took after my dad, a personality like that,” months before their draft.
Angelica Wiggins
Fifth of the six siblings, Angelica had an elaborate collegiate career, playing for the University Incarnate Word Cardinals. The 5 ‘9 guard played for two seasons, averaging 6.6 ppg. While there isn’t much development in her basketball career, Angelica completed her major in Business Administration and had plans to open up her own business, as per her college profile. Notably, she was the one to break the news about her father’s demise on her IG story, writing, “Rest easy. You’ll forever be missed. I love you forever Daddy.”
