The Doc Rivers era in Milwaukee is not going how the Bucks front office expected. After former head coach Adrian Griffin led the Bucks to a solid 30-13 record to start the season, Rivers has failed to pick up where Griffin left off. Giannis Antetokounmpo and Co. suffered a humiliating loss against the shorthanded Memphis Grizzlies tonight. The Bucks are now 3-7 with Rivers as their head coach.
What’s shocking is that the Grizzlies were playing without any of their superstars, including Ja Morant, Desmond Bane, Marcus Smart, and Jaren Jackson Jr. Meanwhile, the Bucks had their superstar duo of Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard completely healthy and available. Still, Doc Rivers’ team lost the game 110-113. After the game, Doc Rivers wasted no time dodging blame for the Bucks’ embarrassing loss. He instead gave a bizarre excuse for the team’s shortcomings. “We had some guys here, some guys in Cabo.” Rivers said.

Tonight was Giannis Antetokounmpo and Co.’s final game heading into the All-Star break. And they would not be happy going into the weekend with such a humiliating loss. Even though the Bucks have played abysmally since they hired Doc Rivers, the head coach did not take accountability for the team’s poor form. The Bucks were 2nd in the Eastern Conference standings when Adrian Griffin was their head coach. They have now dropped to the 3rd spot and are at risk of going down even further. Doc Rivers needs to figure things out before it is too late for the Bucks to salvage the situation.

Did the Bucks make a mistake firing Adrian Griffin?
The NBA World was shocked when the Milwaukee Bucks fired Adrian Griffin while his team was dominating the league. Giannis Antetokounmpo and Co. were at the top of their game with Griffin as their head coach. The only problem in their game was the lack of defense. However, they could have solved that problem at the mid-season trade deadline without firing Griffin. Even though Doc Rivers is a more experienced head coach, his teams have a history of choking in the big moments. Apart from his Championship run with the Boston Celtics in 2008, Rivers has failed to achieve significant success in the playoffs throughout his career.

Doc Rivers’ teams have blown three 3-1 leads, four 3-2 leads, and have a record of 6-10 in Game 7s during the playoffs. If Rivers fails to make a deep run in the playoffs this year despite having two of the best players on his team, front offices might lose faith in him forever. The Bucks will also have to reconsider if they made a mistake firing Adrian Griffin and should have stuck with him, at least for this season.
